Why would QB make all the Desktop Versions into a subscription based version? You already had the online and Enterprise subscription based versions. You guys keep raising the prices all in the name of new features or innovations, which honestly there's not been anything new or of value. It seems to be just a marketing excuse to raise prices and get more money. I'm very sad about this with QB. You should have at least left one version of some kind that is not tied to a subscription. Oh well, I'm moving myself and all my clients away from QB during the next year to a more favorable solution. I've noticed there's a lot of this happening with companies moving away from you guys because of this. I'm sure you'll see a much bigger drop in the coming year as well.

@Willis Solutions RE: Why would QB make all the Desktop Versions into a subscription based version?
Because they can and they will probably make more money this way.
@RCV RE: Our price increase are in line with the industry standards.
There is no such thing as an industry standard for price increases. I don't know who told you that there is, but they just made that up out of thin air. Or you did.
This is their roadmap to get rid of QB Desktop someday. Increasing the subscription rate and not offering the one time license anymore are the "smart ways" to force QB Desktop users to switch to QB Online. That's why they really love to use this statement, "We're encouraging Desktop customers to switch to QuickBooks Online to discover the flexibility and collaboration that our online ecosystem can bring to you and your clients' business."
The problem is that I already tried QB online for several customers all asked me to discontinue it. I did not find it as robust or user friendly. There also wasn't the standard tools needed to use the online program that is equivalent to the Desktop version. What a shame. I'll be switching them all out of QB during this next year and going with a different program so no big deal. Wish QB the best in their new way of things.
We get until May of 2024 if we have the 2021 platform correct?
It always comes down to squeezing more money out of everyone instead of supplying a solution. That's to bad. My feeling after some discussions with other businesses in communities is that QB might find they regret this transition amen they notice huge amounts of businesses leaving. They had the edge with the desktop version as it was. Take that away? Doesn't look good.
@Willis Solutions wrote:We get until May of 2024 if we have the 2021 platform correct?
Correct. You can purchase a 3rd party service to convert QBD file to another cloud based accounting app later.
Any ideas on who we can switch to as an alternative payroll/bookkeeping program? My subscription has increased by 30%, which is now unaffordable. I'm looking for new software that is not online-based.
Are you using QB Online or QB Desktop?
I'm using QB Desktop. Online is way too expensive for a large number of payroll client.
If you are using QBD 2021, you can still purchase the one time license for it.
But it's going to subscription so why spend all that money for a short time use?
You have no other choice. They will offer QBD 2023 with a subscription license only. If you are using QBD Enterprise, you can still find other ERP programs with perpetual licenses to consider.
Just got a notice that the proadvisor subscription renewal is 1649.
Last year was 1199
Cannot find any rates online for the price of QB proadvisor.
I only use desktop.
Anybody know how to find this info?

It is outrageous that Intuit keeps increasing their prices like this. In the last 2 years there has been at least 3 - 4 increases. Now they are increasing the ProAdvisor Software Bundle 100% this year!!!!! I will be looking for alternatives for myself and my clients. If you have that you've found, would love to know.
What a gigantic LOAD! The level of service offered by QB no longer justifies these prices and the continual prices increases over the last two years. Giving advanced notice of the increases is not helpful nor does it negate the highway robbery pricing. Increasing the PAP Software package 100% is absolutely outrageous! Small firms like mine cannot afford these prices.
Except Online STILL does not measure up to the Desktop version. They aren't equal yet, QB keeps pushing and acting like they are. It's maddening to say the least.
My ProAdvisor subscription will increase this year 100%!!!!!!! No longer affordable for me.
They "urge" you to recommend your clients to use QBO.
If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your books and only need basic features, you should explore this one. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). This program is quite popular in Asia and Europe.
Then to pay your bills for free by ACH, you can signup a Melio account for free.

Hope it helps.
I would suggest everyone look into a company called Patriot Accounting. You might not want to go with online accounting software but I'm giving them a shot and I'm coming from a QB Desktop Premiere version. They have accounting software as well as Payroll. You can do both or just one. If you do more than one person's books you can become a partner for free which I have done. You can have as many companies as you want and manage all your clients from one database and the system allows unlimited users with no extra cost. There are also some controls in place for those users. Both the payroll and accounting software are far cheaper than QB and provide everything you would need to get your accounting and payroll done. If you go with premium accounting it's about 30 a month and the scaled down version is 20 a month. It does some key functions like bank importing and the ability to accept payments. I have a pretty advanced client for accounting and Patriot will work for them. There's some adjusting but it's going to work great for the price and service offered. You can also get full service payroll including them filing and paying your taxes for way cheaper than QB. The premium version is about 37 a month with 4 per employee. The scaled down version is about 17 a month. These prices aren't introductory prices either. Their payroll also includes an addon for employee timecards. One of the functions I liked the best was setting up an employee was easier as you send them a link to fill out their info and it goes directly into the software system. They can manage their timecards and info at anytime. They can also view paystubs and retrieve their W-2's. This is the same for contractors. Big time savor.
They have awesome customer service where you meet with them via Zoom face to face to go over their web interface, and instruction. I believe it's the same with onboarding. Their ongoing customer service is the same you get live people to help you the first time around and aren't left to look through FAQ pages and tutorials, although they do provide instructions via video if you prefer that. Very friendly easy to understand and they really help you with anything you need.
I tried manager but it was not very user friendly at all. I was unable to do simple tasks like create income and expense accounts the buttons to create do not work. This does not seem like a viable solution for a desktop solution. I'm not opposed to buying a different desktop solution but Manager seemed pretty useless to me. I tried to tutorials but even those don't tell you anything other than about accounting. Didn't say anything about how to etc. I might be doing something wrong but I'm pretty skilled in accounting and when a software is missing key elements or wording it makes it hard and time consuming. However, it's free so some might try to take more time to figure it out.
As I know, Patriot is a paid, cloud-based app with subscription only options (similar to QB Online) and does not offer a stand-alone program to run on machines without an internet connection. I prefer to compare Patriot with ZohoBooks
