Printing 1099 forms when efiling

I am working on 1099's and am required to efile them all.  I was expecting to be able to print the copy to give to my contractors on plain paper as I did with W-2's but there is not option to print on blank paper.

Don't tell me I'm going to have to buy the 1099 forms as well as pay QB third party to e file for me?

Printing 1099 forms when efiling

I understand you want to send your contractors a printed copy of the 1099 forms, ljkentucky.

Printing 1099s varies depending on whether you have e-filed or not. If you used Tax1099 to e-file forms, follow the steps in this Tax1099 article, Where Can I See My Submitted Forms? to print a copy.

On the other hand, if you don't e-file with Intuit, Purchase your 1099 Kit by mid-January so you can print. Please remember to keep track of the deadlines for filing your taxes with the IRS and delivering work as a contractor.

  1. Update your QuickBooks Desktop file to the latest release. Be sure to select the Reset Update checkbox.
  2.  It's important to be on the latest release to ensure that your 1099s print correctly,
  3. Hover to Vendors, then choose 1099 Forms, then Print/E-file 1099 Forms. Create your 1099s.
  4. In the Choose a filing method window, select Print 1099-NEC or Print 1099-MISC.
  5. Specify the date range for the forms, then choose OK.
  6. Select all vendors for whom you wish to print 1099s, then select Print 1099
  7. Double-check your printer settings, then choose Print.

For more information, refer to this article: Print your 1099 and 1096 forms.

Meanwhile, you can read the year-end checklist to wrap up this year's payroll. It includes essential tasks that needs to be completed before the end of the year, such as processing employee bonuses, preparing W-2 and 1099 forms, and verifying year-to-date totals for each employee.

Printing 1099 forms when efiling

I filed my 1099s electronically with quickbooks but I wanted to also print the contractor copy. Now it’s not allowing me to print the 1099s, is there a way I can print them just to keep for my records, without depending on quickbooks to access them? Appreciate any help!

Yes, you can print copies of the 1099s even after filing them electronically via QuickBooks Desktop, Mary Barge.

We'll need to update your QuickBooks Desktop file to the latest release and ensure we click the Reset Update checkbox. This allows for your 1099s to print correctly. Once done, we can print your 1099 forms again. Here's how:

  1. Go to Vendors, then select 1099 Forms, then Print/E-file 1099 Forms. Create your 1099s.
  2. In the Choose a filing method window, select Print 1099-NEC or Print 1099-MISC.
  3. Specify the date range for the forms, then choose OK.
  4. Select all vendors you wish to print 1099s for.
  5. Select Print 1099. Select Print 1096s instead, if printing Form 1096.
  6. Double-check your printer settings, then select Print.

You can check out this article for the steps and details: Print your 1099 and 1096 forms. Alternatively, if you are unable to print directly through the wizard for any reason, you can export the 1099 information and then print it from a PDF viewer. Here's how:

  1. Complete the steps above up to the print preview.
  2. Instead of sending directly to the printer, choose the option to Print to PDF if your system allows it, or use a PDF printer like Microsoft Print to PDF.
  3. Save the PDFs to your computer.
  4. Locate the saved PDF files on your computer.
  5. Open each PDF document with a PDF reader (like Adobe Acrobat Reader).
  6. Print the documents directly from the PDF reader.

This way, you have saved copies of your 1099s independent of QuickBooks, and you can print them anytime you need. If you're still experiencing printing issues, refer to the following resources:
