Please help! QB 2016 app is crashing on my mac book pro as soon as I tried to move a window. The company file opens but as soon as I click on a window, it crashes. My old laptop from 2012 is using High Sierra and QB version 17.2.32.726 R33.
Most of the suggestions to repair software here are for PC's, but I need Mac help.
Hi, MarkMalarky.
I want to share some details about the QuickBooks Mac 2016 version crashing.
QuickBooks for Mac 2016 only supports Mac OS X v10.14 (Mojave), 10.13 (High Sierra), Mac OS 10.11 (El Capitan), and Mac OS X v10.12 (Sierra). You'll only need to make sure you're able to download the latest R33 release patch.
Before we proceed, have you encountered any error messages?
Here are the possible reasons why you're 2016 crashing:
To fix this, let's run Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. They're designed to fix issues when you have data corruption, a damaged operating system, installation, and printing problems. Before that, let's download and install the Tool Hub.

Let me know how this goes by commenting below. I'm always around to help ensure you open your QBDT Mac 2016 company file without issue.
Thank you for replying so quickly. I clicked on the Quickbooks Tool Hub but it is a program for Windows, not mac, and I could not open it.
As I mentioned previously, I am using the latest version of QB 2016 and OS High Sierra.
There is no error message before the program crashes.
I am getting a new error message:
"UPDATE ERROR: An error occurred in retrieving update information. Please try again later."
Then it crashes
BTW: this program has been working for 6 years until two days ago.
Hi there, @MarkMalarky.
Thanks for following up with us.
You're right. The QuickBooks Tool Hub isn't going to work with your version of QuickBooks since you're using Mac. However, I have some troubleshooting steps that I'd like for you to try.
First, I'd like for you to reboot your computer. I know that sounds like it's too simple of a fix, but sometimes QuickBooks Desktop processes can get stuck and cause the program to crash.
If you have already tried that, I'd like for you to run your computer in Safe Boot mode. This will determine if there is a conflict between QuickBooks and something installed on your computer.
Here's how:
If you still have issues, check out Troubleshoot Crash Catcher for additional troubleshooting steps.

I'm here if you have any follow-up questions or concerns. Have a good one!
Try opening the sample file. If you encounter the same issue, consider to reinstall QB.
Hello. Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, nothing worked. I used Clean My Mac to optimize and clean my computer, but I think between its age and that of QB 2016 it is beyond repair. Intuit says it no longer supports QB2016 so a fresh install is not possible.
I am still absorbing the sticker shock of $30/mo of moving into Simple Start for a business as simple as mine.
It may be that the window tracking preference file is corrupt. This is a standard Apple thing that applies to each application on a Mac. Try deleting the QuickBooks preferences:
