When installed on an Android phone, the app can receive a picklist and send an updated picklist back to QuickBooks Enterprise. It can't do barcode scanning.

Running Enterprise Desktop Manufacturing 2021 PLATINUM on a trial license.
Have installed and configured Advanced Inventory function. Picker defined.
Have installed and linked Desktop app on Android phone. App is connected to QB, can retrieve orders assigned to my Picker ID, can open those items for pick and pack functions.
Have barcode scanner app on phone.Phone is defined as a scanner device in QB.
The issue: Can't push scanned barcode value into the Serial number field on the app, so I can't associate that serial number on that SKU with a specific order.
Enterprise tech support says that serial numbers have to be pre-defined to QB so that it can link to them. Since that's not compatible with how we generate our Serial numbers, that's a non-starter.
If I need to use an "approved" scanner instead of my Android phone, that's fine - but I want to know it will work before I buy a higher-end scanner than I might need.
Any other suggestions or guidance would be MOST welcome!

Hi TogsTeam,
We're unable to use the mobile app for scanning. You will really need a real scanner.
There are some conditions that must be met so a scanner can be compatible with QuickBooks. I'm sharing this article for your reference: Set up and use barcode scanning in QuickBooks Desktop. Please go to this section: Check if your scanner is compatible.
The article also contents information on how you can set up and test your scanner.

JessT - Thanks for the quick response. You're right - the appropriate section of the help file says exactly that, I just ever drilled down deep enough (emphasis mine):
