QB Desktop Contractor 2023 Password Field not working

Using Priemer Plus Contractor 2023, Windows 11. 1/2 the time when I lock my computer over night then log back in in the morning Quickbooks will open with a greyed out password field. I can not click anywhere in the program. Can't click user name or password field, can't click exit or minimize button. I end up having to restart my desktop to get it to work.

Tried using the quickbooks repair program tool and does not do anything. Tried reinstalling once.

I appreciate you performing some troubleshooting steps to resolve your concern, @JordanS1.

I can see the importance of accessing your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company so you can proceed with your different business tasks. With this, I'll ensure you can achieve your goal.

Damaged data can usually cause this issue when working with your company file. Running Quick Fix My Program from the QuickBooks Tools Hub to repair your file can resolve this case.

To begin with, let's download and install the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.6.0.3) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub and save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
  3. Locate the QuickBooksToolHub.exe file that you downloaded and open it.
  4. Please follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation, then agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

After that, proceed to these steps to run a quick repair on your program:

  1. Choose Program Problems in the tool hub.
  2. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

If you still encounter the same issue, proceed to Solution 2 in this material: QuickBooks Desktop won't open.

On the other hand, you might want to review this article for guidance on updating your QuickBooks Desktop password whenever you have trouble signing in to your company: Reset your password for QuickBooks Desktop.

I appreciate you taking steps to handle odd behavior in QuickBooks Desktop, JordanS1b. I have an additional set of instructions to ensure that you can use the application efficiently.

To start with, I recommend updating QuickBooks and checking your file type to ensure you're opening the right one.

Here's how:

  1. Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
  2. Ensure the file you want to open is a company file (.QBW). You can't open other file types, like backups (QBB) and portable files (QBM) the same way.
  3. Make sure your file isn't compressed or encrypted:
    1. Right-click the company file, then choose Properties.
    2. Select Advanced and clear the Compress, and the Encrypt checkboxes.
    3. Click OK.

If the problem persists, you may have a huge report or multiple windows set up to open automatically. If this is the case, QuickBooks can freeze on startup. To fix this, you'll need to open your company file without saved windows. You can refer to this article and go to Solution Two to see the process: Can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop This also provides another step to be taken to fix the issue you encountered.

In case you need additional guidelines for effectively managing your business using QBDT, you can read this article: Help guide for QuickBooks Desktop. It contains topics about advanced accounting, banking, and payments to name a few.

It'll always be my pleasure to help if you have any other concerns besides working with QuickBooks. Please let me know by clicking the Reply button and leaving a comment below. Take care and stay safe, JordanS1.

I have had the same issue for over a year. It started when using Enterprise Gold 23 and continues to be a problem with Enterprise Gold 24. It seems like if I don't open Quickbooks within 24 hrs of closing it, the Passwork Field is grayed out. Many times I will automatically restart my computer before trying to open QB, but sometimes the computer is already locked up. Then, I have to shut off the computer on the tower to close it down because I am not able to go to the "Start" icon to restart. In fact, when it happened this morning, I tried to restart my Desktop computer 2X's by turning it off on the tower and finally had to unplug my computer to clear that field.

I have at one time in the past, contacted a QB specialist by phone and they were not able to help with the problem.

Allow me to help you so you can resolve your error about your password field that is grayed out, @CV4M.

  4. Please follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation, then agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Once done, follow the steps below to run a quick repair on your program:

  1. Choose Program Problems in the tool hub.
  2. Select Quick Fix My Program.
  3. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

For more information and to proceed to Solution 2 in fixing this error, refer to this article: QuickBooks Desktop won't open.

However, if the issue persists after doing some troubleshooting steps, I suggest contacting the support team again to check further what's causing this and determine possible solutions.

In case you lost or forgot your password, check this article to help you reset your password: Reset password.

I already had the current Quickbooks Tool Hub downloaded on my desktop and ran both the Quick Fix and the diagnostic program. When the diagnostic program was done, it gave the message that no errors were found. I will continue to monitor the Password Field and follow up as needed.
