QB online exporting to QB desktop

I need to export QB online to QB desktop, however, before doing so I want to confirm that my data online will still be there.  Is this a possibility?  So I can have both.  I want the QB online for invoicing purposes and the QB desktop for preparing financial reports.

QB online exporting to QB desktop

Welcome to the Community, @TLHENNESSY.

Yes, you can export your QuickBooks Online (QBO) data into your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and retain both files as long as you do not cancel your subscription in your QBO account.

I can assist you with importing data from QBO to QBDT, assuming you have already downloaded and installed QBDT on your computer. Let's proceed with moving your files to Excel.

Here’s how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account and click the Gear Icon.
  2. Select Export Data and enter your reason why you're exporting your data. Then, click Continue.
  3. Review your data from the export overview screen. Once ready, click Export to Excel.
  4. In the Exporting from QuickBooks Online page, select Continue to Download.
  5. Then, follow the rest of the on-screen instructions to complete the exporting process.

Once done, you can now import your data into QuickBooks Desktop. You can visit this article as a reference: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to Desktop.

However, if you want your invoices in your QBO account while generating reports in QBDT. You have to keep manually importing your transactions to track them since they settled in different QB accounts. I recommend you sign up for QBDT Payments for easier and faster transactions for you and your business.

I'll be leaving you this article that entails how to process payments inside QBDT, where you can also turn on online payments to email invoices to your customers: Take and process payments in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know below by leaving a comment if you have other inquiries about moving your files from QBO to QBDT. I’m just a post away.
