QB POS 19 install/upgrade on new computer

I am in the process of upgrading from QB POS 18 to version 19...I am also replacing a few computers at the same time. My questions do I need to install the older version 18 on the new computers first then install version 19 over it or can I just install version 19 and use a copy of the backup from version 18 to import all the data.

    Thanks for upgrading! I'm sure you're excited to use the new version. I'm here to give you some important details about the upgrade and installation process. 

     

    There's no need to install the older version on the new computers. You would just need to install the version 19 and convert the current company file for the new installation. Just make sure you have the new license and product numbers. 

     

    After installing, you'll want to convert your company file for the new QuickBooks POS 19. Here's how: 

     

    1. Go to the File menu, then select Company Operations.
    2. Choose Convert from previous version, then click Next.
    3. Enter the Company Name for your converted data file,
    4. Select the Previous Version of QuickBooks POS (version 18 in your case). 
    5. Click Convert. 

     

    You can start recording your sales and other transactions in your new POS system.

      Just to clarify, if we're upgrading POS 18 to POS19  on existing computers, do we need to uninstall POS 18 before installing POS 19? Will this be an automated prompt when installing POS19? Can you confirm the steps below:

      1. Create back up on version POS 18

      2. Download/install POS 19

      3. Open POS 19

      4.  Follow the 5 steps outlined in Reply on how to convert your company file

      I'm here to help you install the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale on your computer.

       

      The steps that you've shared are correct. There's no need for you to uninstall the the POS 18 version. You can install the latest version directly.

       

      Before doing so, make sure that your computer meets the system requirements so POS will work smoothly.  Once verified, you can now proceed with the installation process. 

       

      To do that:

      1. Open the QuickBooks installation file on your desktop. If you get a prompt to overwrite the existing extracted files, select Yes to All.
      2. Select Next on the wizard to start the installation.
      3. Read the License Agreement. If you agree, select I accept the terms in the license agreement. Then select Next.
      4. Enter your license and product number, then select Next.
      5. Choose the type of installation.
      6. If you choose to install on two or more computers, select the type of workstation that this computer will be.
      7. Select Install to begin the installation.
      8. After the installation, activate QuickBooks Point of Sale and you’re all set. You may need to restart your computer and reopen QuickBooks to get started.

       

      After that, you can now convert your file  to the newer version.

        I am using a new PC / Server in our upgrade to V19 POS.  I installed POS 19.  But there is no option to convert from previous version under the File menu.  Do I need to install the old version of POS on my server first then install 19 so it recognizes I have a previous version?
