QBDBMgr.exe pegging 4 CPU cores

In my environment I am running QuickBooks Enterprise Contractor 2018, with about 55 company files and 20+ active daily users and 10 more intermittent users. I have a Windows Server 2016 VM dedicated to running the server manager and hosting the files with 8 CPU cores and 32 GB RAM. The environment runs surprisingly well most of the time.

The issue I'm posting about is that whoever is the first person to log in first thing in the morning has the privilege of having the QBDBMgr.exe process running on their machine. It's very processor intensive, so if it happens to be one of the 10 or so users on the Terminal Server, it really hoses everyone up. If it's running on a workstation I can always tell who it is because their fans are spun up high.

While the issue is happening, I've verified that the machine isn't hosting the file. It's in multi-user mode already and the database manager on the server shows that the file is open with users logged into it. I've also verified that it's *not* the QBDBMgrN.exe server process. It's something different. The description in Task Manager says it's SQL Anywhere Personal Server. As soon as the user logs out of QuickBooks, the process terminates and everything returns to normal. There is no impact to the other users logged in.

My Google-fu has failed to find any information about that process. I've asked support about it in the past, and get a shrug ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ because I have the server running in a VM and some users on a Windows RDS terminal server. Support shrugs off many of my issues since I'm running in "unsupported" configuration.

Has anyone ever seen this process, know what its purpose is, and why it would be behaving this way?

QBDBMgr.exe pegging 4 CPU cores

Good day, jjonesftw.

I appreciate you checking in with us. I'm here to share a few details about the SQL Anywhere Personal Server and direct you to the right support.

The SQL Anywhere Personal Server is associated with QBDMgr.exe. It is the main executable file for the QuickBooks Database Manager that allows the configuration and scan folders for company files for multi-user access.

It's possible that the QBDMgr.exe file has fragmentation and accumulated invalid entries which affect the PC's performance. In this case, I recommend reaching out our Technical Support Team. They have more tools to configure and perform troubleshooting steps specifically to the network server.

Here's how to get in contact with them:

  1. Go to Help.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Click on the Contact us link.
  4. Choose a topic.
  5. Enter your account information and click on the Submit button.
  6. Click on the Start a Message button.

Please let me know how it goes after contacting them by leaving a comment below. I want to make sure everything you're all set with this concern.
