QBO Date Formatting Changed

Yesterday I could enter 013121 in a date field in QBO then hit Tab and QBO would change the date to 01/31/2021. Today this function does not work--Chrome or Edge--tried more than one client. When I enter 013121, I get the error message enter a date in correct format.

When I enter 01/31/21 and press Tab, QBO converts to 01/13/1921. The only way to get a correct date is enter the date long hand: 01/31/2021.

Why did this change? Do you, Intuit, realize that you just added thousands of keystrokes a week for us bookkeepers? When you make changes they SHOULD save time, not add to our workload.

QBO Date Formatting Changed

They've messed up the software and are aware of the issue and are supposedly working to fix it.

QBO Date Formatting Changed

Hi there, anton.

I'm here to share some insights on how transaction dates work in QuickBooks Online.

When entering a transaction date, the program requires you to type the whole date and separate the month, day, and year by a special character (forward slash, period, or dash). I can understand how convenient to have this option, though, especially if you have a lot of transactions that need to be recorded. That said, I'll be taking note of this to improve your QuickBooks experience.

Additionally, in case you want to change the date format, I've listed the steps below:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then select Accounts and Settings.
  2. Choose Advanced, then head to the Other preferences section.
  3. Click the Edit icon beside Date format.
  4. From the Date format drop-down arrow, select the desired format.
  5. Select Save, then Done.

Do you need some resources while working on other areas in the program? You can always visit our QuickBooks Help Articles page.

I'll be right here to continue helping if you have any other questions or concerns. Assistance is just a post away.

QBO Date Formatting Changed

I'm having the exact same issue.  I either have to stop typing to bring up the calendar or add dashes to the date.  This is happening transactions, reports, etc...  Please change back

This did not work for me.  I still have to add the dashes or use the calendar.

QBO Date Formatting Changed

They've messed up. The only workaround for this right now is to fully type the date in the format 26/02/2021 (presuming you are using DD/MM/YYYY). If you type 26/2, it'll throw it up as an error, if you type 26/2/21, it'll assume you mean 26/02/1921 (a century out).  Surprised such an obvious issue made it past testing...

QBO Date Formatting Changed

Thank you for your time. However, your answer did not address the question.

I have been on QB desktop since 2006 and QBO since 2016. I have thousands of hours as a QB user. You answer tells me that you did not understand my question or you have never actually done and data entry into QB.

QBO Date Formatting Changed

I have the same issue, just started today. I reached out to support and was given this link to check through-out the day: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/accountants/news-community/product-updates/

When this bug has been resolved it will show up here as an update.

QBO Date Formatting Changed

One day later I am recording transactions and the date function/formatting issue has been fixed. Obviously this was a coding error when some eager beaver went live with a web update before verifying that everything still worked.

I learned a very valuable lesson many years ago: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Intuit, please STOP changing things just because. There should be a REAL reason for a change, not just some designer/programmer is bored. Changes should actually improve a program not make it harder to use.
