Do you have to uninstall the quickbooks on the old computer before being able to use it on the new one? I have quickbooks 2013 with one user access. I installed QB 2013 on new computer and it says "The file you specified cannot be opened. Make sure that it is not currently being used by another program or a read-only file. The Windows error was "the system cannot find the path specified." And then I can click ok a bunch of times and finally get in on the new computer. I didn't uninstall QB's on my old computer because I wanted to make sure it ran ok on the new one before I did that. But maybe it is read only or being used by another program because it is still active on my old computer? I ran a compatibility test for windows and reverted back to an older version of windows with no luck. Is there a way to just deactivate your license on your old computer but keep QB's on there? I just want some feedback because my fear is that I uninstall on my old computer and it doesn't resolve the issue on the new computer and if I run into issues trying to reinstall on my old computer for whatever reason that would be very bad. Thanks
You don't need to uninstall your QuickBooks Desktop on the old computer to use it on the new one, @shawn2020. Let me share some information about this one below.
Please ensure that you're not using QuickBooks Desktop simultaneously on multiple computers, Additionally, it's important to create a back up your company file before transferring so your data and supporting files are saved and can be restored any time.
Moreover, the error message you encountered when using the QBDT appears when opening the company file for the first time and a result of incorrect Windows folder location permissions, firewall settings, or internet configurations.
To get rid of it, right-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop and select Run as Administrator.
Furthermore, you can manage your QBDT account and services with the Customer Account Maintenance Portal (CAMPs). You might want to check out this article in completing the steps: Manage your QuickBooks Desktop subscriptions and services.

Can you open the sample file on the new machine?
