Sonoma just updated again last night (11/16/23) I was able to open and use Quickbooks Desktop 2019 on my Mac again for the first time since the original Sonoma update happened! Thrilled as I almost purchased the 2024 QB Desktop version. The only problem I see so far is I am unable to backup either of the two companies I am running in QB's. If anyone has found a way to create a backup I'd appreciate the advice!
Hi LAM4321,
Thank you for sharing the great news that you're able to open QuickBooks Mac after the update. We expect that other users will also be able to open their company files.
Regarding the issue of not being able to back up your company files, there is an ongoing investigation for it. While waiting for updates from our engineers, I encourage you to contact our QuickBooks Mac team today and have your account added to INV-74567. The team can do this in a more secure environment. They are available on weekdays from 6 AM to 6 PM PT.
Don't hesitate to reach out if you have more questions about backing up your company files. Take care and have a good one.
Thanks for the reply - I am using Quickbooks Desktop for Mac 2019 - You're reply says to have my account aded to INV-74567 with the issue cannot back up QB Mac 2023 company files...?
Confuse no more, @LAM4321. I'm here to clarify the backup process for MAC versions.
As my colleague mentioned above, there's an ongoing investigation about being unable to create a backup file. It's not specifically for QBDT MAC 2023 because this issue is file-specific.
Since the 2019 version has been discontinued on May 31, 2022, you'll no longer receive assistance from live technical support. As a workaround, you can choose to upgrade or work with an IT personnel.

Me too!!!! What a relief! I have been able to backup my files. I’m running QB4Mac 2019 Desktop on Somona - after the update the other night - I was shocked when I was able to open Quickbooks. I’ve added all my data from the past few weeks - what a relief!
The issue with my files is strange, I run three company files and only one of them will backup. Not a
super techie but thinking I tried to open two of the files after the first Sonoma upgrade and both kept crashing. These are the two files that won’t back up. The company file that I never opened until the most recent Sonoma update opens and backs up just fine. I’m going to try to restore the two files that won’t back up with the most recent backup I have before the Sonoma update and see if maybe that helps? It’s definitely a file issue for me. I was told by QB’s support to try Verify and Rebuild for the files that won’t open, but my computer freezes when I try to verify data of either of the two files that won’t back up. Will probably need to upgrade at some point down the road, but concerned if my files are corrupted I won’t be able to get them to work in the upgrade and then I’ll really be in trouble! Ugh…
I appreciate you providing detailed information regarding your issue, @LAM4321.
You can restore the two files that won't back up with your most recent backup before the Sonoma update. It's also essential to upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop Mac (QBDT Mac) version to use the new functionalities and improve system performance.
I suggest contacting QBDT Mac support to verify data integrity before upgrading. They're available weekdays from 6 AM to 6 PM PT. Here's how:
Also, in case you encounter any issues with your QB files, Intuit Data Services is here to help you. You can refer to any email sent by the team regarding your data services case to get a direct chat link. They're available Monday to Friday, 6 AM to 6 PM PT.
In case you want to back up your entire computer or just your QB files and folders, you can check out this article for more guidance: Set up Intuit Data Protect to back up files.
Let me know if you have follow-up concerns about backing up your company files. I'll be there to assist.
Thanks for your advice and help. I’ll give the restore from last backup before Sonoma a shot and pray it works when I backup those files. Regarding contacting QBDT Mac support to verify my 2019 file data before upgrade.. QBDT support won't help me verify because I’m using 2019 version - I was told QB’s cannot give live IT help to me and can only send me links w/ info to read (which I appreciate) but I don’t want to upgrade and then find out that my files won’t backup on a new costly version that I’ve purchased.
The issue with my files is strange, I run three company files and only one of them will backup.
Open the sample file. Can you run the backup and restore it without any issue?
I was running QB Mac 2016 on Mojave. I have upgraded to Sonoma and as expected, QB 2016 does not run. I do not want to run a subscription model, Is there a way to install & run a standalone version of QB 2021 or 2023? Intuit support simply wants to sell me a subscription to QB Mac 2024 (that has only been available for 1 month!!).
How can I get a copy of QB Mac 2021?
Contact me in private and we can share some options to consider.
We appreciate you for dropping your concern here in the thread, @jgeisser1. Let me share information regarding the QuickBooks Desktop Mac (QBDT) stand-alone version.
If you have a one-time license for QBDT Mac 2021, you can download and install it. However, a stand-alone version of QBDT Mac 2023 is not available. Instead, we have introduced a QBDT subscription since 2022 that you can renew after one year. If you want to use QBDT Mac 2023, you can purchase a subscription and renew it annually.
Let me show you how to download QBDT Mac:
If you need a one-time license for QBDT Mac 2021, you can purchase one from third-party apps or resellers outside QuickBooks. Just know that the license will expire on May 31, 2024, three years after its release date.

Any specific concern? You can still run QBD 2019 and 2020 on Sonoma 14.1.1
Or do you need another option to replace your QBD 2019/2020?
I can run it now, but fear every Sonoma update may cause another freeze. I wouldn't mind upgrading to Mac QBD 2021 if that will be better supported, but I'm not seeing any definitive answer or information about both issues.
You are correct. Every time Apple releases an update for Sonoma, your outdated QB Desktop can break at any time. If that happens, contact me in private and we will share some options to consider.
Hello. I would like to know what the latest is on the compatibility of QB for Mac 2023 with the Mac OS Sonoma. I just purchased a new computer and it's wanting to upgrade to the Sonoma latest version of OS and I don't want to do it until I know all the kinks have been worked out. Thanks.

I checked and I do have the latest release. But what I think I'm seeing in comments is that it still does not have all the bugs worked out of OS Sonoma. Am I correct on that?
Thanks for the prompt reply, @BCI2002.
We appreciate your effort in checking your software system if it's on the latest release and we're glad that it is.

I do not have a one time license for QBDT Mac 2021. I am looking for a standalone (desktop) version that I can install on Sonoma (I have QB 2016 which I understand will not run on Sonoma). If QB no longer sells that, I will be forced to use the online subscription.
The link you provided above assumes that you already have a license for a Desktop version,
I have spoken with 3 different sales people who told me 3 different stories about purchasing new QB Desktop software and the Online offerings.so I am at a loss. Is there someone (not a sales person) that can share what options are available for a single user, one company file business?
Thank you for your help!

Have you contacted Fiat Lux directly?
They will share with you 2 options to run on your Mac instead of the cloud.
Thank you for the quick reply!! Honestly, I did not see how to contact Fiat Lux directly. Thank you for your help!
