Quickbooks for Mac 2021 Is there a way to change the color of a check or register?

Thanks for getting back to us, @CreighHill

I'm here to ensure you can get that desired background color as default. I'd recommend updating your QuickBooks for Mac manually. This ensures you have the latest features and fixes. I'd be glad to show you how.

Follow these instructions below:

  1. Uninstall QuickBooks for Mac.
    1. Close QuickBooks.
    2. From the Finder menu, select Go Applications.
    3. Drag the QuickBooks icon to the Trash.
  2. Reinstall the latest version.
    1. Go to QuickBooks Downloads & Updates.
    2. Make sure to select the correct country, product, and version.
    3. Click Search.
    4. Select Download to download the installer file.
    5. Double-click the .dmg file.
    6. Drag the QuickBooks icon to the Applications folder to install. Note: To verify the update and check the release number, open QuickBooks and press Cmd+1.
  3. Restore your company file in QuickBooks.

These instructions are available from our guide on updating QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release.

Once done, see if the color change stays as default after reopening the program. Otherwise, please contact our support for further troubleshooting. Refer to this link for the detailed steps: Contact Support.

Quickbooks for Mac 2021 Is there a way to change the color of a check or register?

Thanks for posting here today, @CreighHill.

I'll share the steps on how you can change the color of the Write Checks window. When you change your account's color, your change affects the account's register and associated data entry forms. That includes your register and the Write Checks window.

Here's how to change the background color:

  1. Go to your Chart of Accounts, then double-click the account you want to change to open the register.
  2. In the upper right corner of the window, select the Color pop-up menu to assign a color. You can also tick the color palette by tapping Other.
  3. When you pick one of the color the accent and highlight colors work well. It will also apply to the Write Check window.

Also, feel free to visit our page for more topics and guide about QB for Mac.

Let me know if you still have questions or concerns with checks. I'm always here for you. Take care and have a good one.

Right - that's what you do. Notice also that there are options to have high contrast text (white/black depending on dark/light mode).

Thank you for the help. I'm also trying to change the background colors of my window. Also when I change the font colors and exit out and reopen the program the color change doesn't stay as my default. I have change it to my color each time I open Quickbooks.

Quickbooks for Mac 2021 Is there a way to change the color of a check or register?

Reinstalling QuickBooks won't help (I don't think it ever helps - the QuickBooks application is read-only in the Applications folder so it never gets modified during normal operations).

If your color preferences aren't "sticking" then the issue is likely a corrupted preferences file.  But first be certain you are talking about the same account in QuickBooks as each account has its own color assigned. For instance in the Checks window if you have multiple checking accounts changing the checking account will also change the color of the background.  You can set it up for each one of course.

In the screen shot you sent the red arrow is pointing at the Window title "BOA Operating".  The title text color comes from macOS.  In this case the title text looks gray which just means the window isn't "active". Clicking on the window title should make the window active and then the title text will be black.

If your color choices turn out to really not be sticking then throw out your preferences as follows:

1. Quit QuickBooks

2. In the Finder, hold down the option key and choose Go->Library. This will open the Library window.

3. Scroll in the Library window until you find the Preferences folder. Double click on that.

4. That opens the Preferences window. Find the files that begin with com.intuit.QuickBooks.

5. Throw all of those in the trash.

6. Restart QuickBooks and set the colors to whatever you want.

Hoping the stick after that. If not, let me know here.

How absolutely typical of Intuit.  You have to uninstall the program to restore defaults. Pathetic!

I figured it out, its MacOS and not Quickbooks. Which is why when you save it, then go back in the program it changes.

  1. Go to the Apple (top left corner)
  2. System Settings
  3. Swatch to: Light Mode

Now all of the backgrounds should be white!

And then you can change the highlight color of your check register, but going to the register you want and at the top you will see a color - just change the color or text colors from the register.

You are welcome!

Thanks for joining the thread, natty.

I can help you find the option to change the color of a check or register in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). You can follow these steps:

  1. In your QBDT, press Ctrl+A (or go to the Lists menu and select Chart of Accounts).
  2. Locate and click on the bank register that you wish to customize the color.
  3. Go to the Edit menu.
  4. Select Change Account Color.
  5. Create a sample check and select the account to verify the changes.
