Join nowI need to create a second company on Desktop Pro 2020. From "No Company Open" screen I click "new company". I have to sign in with the admin credentials from my first company and it takes me to the "glad you're here" page. Can't get past that - "create company" is grayed out.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Figured it out. The company name I was entering had a "/" in its name. I changed that to a hyphen and the "create company" button appeared. Pretty strange! QB apparently doesn't recognize a backslash in a company name.
Hello there, @brickroadstoles.
Let me provide an additional idea so you can create a new company smoothly.
We can use the Express Start setup if you want to get started right away. You only need to enter your business name, industry, and business type to create your company file.
Here's how:
Once done, you can personalize QuickBooks for your business, you can click these helpful articles:

Thanks for such a quick reply! After completing your item #1 (In the No Company Open window, select Create a new company), I do not get an Express Start option. After selecting Create a new Company I'm taken to a page that says "Let's get started. Set up your company file with an Intuit account." I say that I'm setting up as the Admin, click "Start Setup" and I'm taken to a sign-in screen. When I sign in with my Intuit username and password, I'm taken to "Glad you're here. We'll personalize your settings . . . . ". I fill out company name, industry, business type, and email, but the Create Company button is grayed out. I can't go any further.
What am I doing wrong that I don't get the Express Start option?
You're still on the right track, @brickroadstoles.
Since you're using the Desktop Pro 2020, the previous Express Start is now changed to "Let's get started. Set up your company file with an Intuit account." You can continue this set up to add a second company file.
If you can't click the Create Company button, then let's make sure to fill out the rest of the required information. They usually have a (*) mark.

This should answer your question today. Please post again in the Community if you have follow-up questions. I’ll be here to help.
On the "Glad you're here" page, I've not only filled in all the fields marked with an asterisk, I went ahead and filled out every other field. The "Create Company" button is still grayed out.
I'm signed in to my brickroadstoles Intuit account. Could that be the problem? Do I need to create another Intuit account based on the name of the second business?
Figured it out. The company name I was entering had a "/" in its name. I changed that to a hyphen and the "create company" button appeared. Pretty strange! QB apparently doesn't recognize a backslash in a company name.
