Today my assistant had this message pop up and it persisted every 10 seconds for the entire morning, preventing her from working.
"There was an unexpected error reported when trying to access company file.
Error in reload.sql at line. Sybase message: Invalid option 'On_Error' -- no PUBLIC settings exists."
Then it tells me to rebuild the company data to fix the problem, which did nothing, or to call the support number.
A fresh re-start of the PC did not work, rebuild did not work, file doctor did not work, and QB was already up to day. The only thing that worked was a complete uninstall and registry cleanup, and re-install. This ended up taking me almost 2 hours in total. Anyone else have this happen to them?
Thank you all as always,
Chris

I called Quickbooks they attempted to charge me $2,600 for support even though I pay for their Gold support plan, so I did not want to call them again.
You are safe, The phone number is the fake support. If you encounter the error message again, you should find the following files
90s.trf
QuickBooksDownloader.exe.config
QuickBooksDownloader.exe.manifest
I know how errors may affect your working progress, @chris-r-624. I'm here to help you resolve it permanently.
Troubleshooting program errors may take a lot of your time. I'm glad that you resolved it and thanks for sharing the details.
Currently, there's no ongoing issue regarding the Error in reload.sql you encountered. To further investigate, may I know when your assistant received this? Is it when opening the company file or while working on a specific task? That information is helpful so I can gather more data and provide an accurate fix.
The Error in reload.sql happens when you open a portable file or an accountant's copy. It comes with a different Sybase error message that can be fixed by repairing the program, reinstalling, using the QuickBooks Diagnostic tool, and changing the location of the company file.
Since you already performed the first three solutions, you may want to use the 4th one in case you encounter the error again. Here's how:
For reference, read this article: Fix Error in reload.sql in QuickBooks for Windows.
I also suggest reaching out to our Technical support team to further investigate this behavior. Once connected, you can request a screen-sharing session so they can review your setup and determine the root causes of the issue.
It's also recommended to create a backup file of your company to ensure you have the original data you can restore at any time. For a detailed guide, check out this resource: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
I always want to make sure you can work with your books seamlessly. In case you encounter trouble again while performing your QuickBooks task, just leave a comment below. Have a good one.
Which QB Desktop year version do you have?
Then it tells me to rebuild the company data to fix the problem, which did nothing, or to call the support number.
Did you see any phone number mention in the error message?
I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that. I'm using Quickbooks Enterprise 2023 with a 2-user license, running on brand new Windows 11 machines. I should also mention that this error occurs BEFORE a company file is even opened. It begins as soon as I open QB, but before any company file is selected (we have multiple company files). Lastly, yes there was a phone number to call for support, however last time I called Quickbooks they attempted to charge me $2,600 for support even though I pay for their Gold support plan, so I did not want to call them again.
As I said in my original post, I was able to fix the error by completely uninstalling QB and related programs, and removing the registry entries. However it was a very time consuming process so I'm hoping if I can understand what caused the issue I can hopefully prevent it from happening again.
Thank you for your reply,
Chris

When I find they file do I just delete it?? This exact same thing is now happening to us.
Thank you,
Yes.
I could not find the files, I spent an hour trying to find them. I called QB Tech support not the number that was listed and I spent 2.5 hours of the phone with them and they couldn't figure it out. Going to the last resort of putting computer back to factory and start from scratch. FIngers crossed that works.
I had this issue pop up coincidentally after I had a screen share session with Intuit. Not the first time I've had problems after that situation. I have done the following to try to get rid of this pop up message: I have used the QuickBooks Tool Hub, run the installation repair tool, uninstalled my Desktop Pro 2023, reinstalled and updated to 2024. I have looked for the .exe files listed below. I have been dancing between popups to try to check my data. This starts the second I use the icon to open qb. Doesn't matter which company, it starts right up initiating the program. I have spent, off and on today, six hours trying to get this to work.
Not my first issue this quarter (merchant service account closed for no reason - had to spend four hours on chat to be told they didn't know what was wrong, and 45 minutes on the phone with the afore mentioned share screen)
I am so frustrated I am seriously considering a different platform. When did QB become so inconsistent??

Do you remember which app they used to remote your PC? e.g TeamViewer, LogMeIn, Glance

I don't have QB Enterprise so support isn't available at any time. I am really at a loss here. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my QB. I have used the QB tool hub and did the troubleshooting for installation (no errors found) yet I still get the pop-up error message every six seconds. I apparently may only access QB support during business hours, when I am at my primary job. I don't really have three hours to wait only to not get a fix to this. This is incredibly disappointing, and I am really stumped. And I wish you nice people would answer the problem and not continually remind me to back up my company. I've used QB since 1999 and am aware of how to back up and restore a file. Again, I've only ever had problems when I have had QB support do a screen share to fix something. The most recent is when our Merchant Services Account was closed, we got the email saying if I didn't close it please contact you, and when I did contact you (because I didn't close the account) your team was stumped. No way to reopen the account, had to completely start over.
Sorry for the rant (again) but I would appreciate knowing if there is or is not a fix to this issue. If not, I will find another system to use. I can't get anything done having to close an error message every six seconds.
Can you find the following files?
90s.trf
QuickBooksDownloader.exe.config
QuickBooksDownloader.exe.manifest
Yes.... No direct answers on how to remove this pop up.
How do I remove this file?
I know how you can remove the Error in reload.sql pop-up and remove the affected file, higginscrabs. I'll guide you through the process below.
The Error in reload.sql pop-up will appear when you open an accountant’s copy transfer file (.QBX) or a portable company file.
To fix them, you'll first have to recreate and resend the file to your accountant. Here's how:
Afterward, move or restore the file locally (to the computer where you use QuickBooks) if the pop-up error continues. For the step-by-step guide on how to do this, please see this article: Fix Error in reload.sql in QuickBooks for Windows.
If the error persists even after performing the resolutions above, I'd recommend contacting our Technical Support team for further investigation.
Once everything is all set, you may want to create a backup of your company file in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for future data restoration purposes. You can check out this article to guide you through the steps: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

Its a virus, open task manager and look for qbhelper right click on it and open file location, go back to task manager and end the qbhelper process, then delete qbhelper and any other files that were installed the same day. Ive been a tech for 25 years and this had me baffled for about 2 hours.
Its a virus, open task manager and find the process qbhelper then right click on it and open file location. Go back to task manager and end the qbhelper process then delete qbhelper and any other files that were installed the same day. Ive been a tech for 25 years and this had me baffled for about 2 hours. The phone number on the popup goes right to the scammers.
I have searched and I don't have qbhelper; I have qbmaker.exe
I don't have any of these files
They may rename it in different variations but qbmaker isn't a legitimate qb file, right click on it and open file location, while explorer is still open right click on it again in task manager and end the process, the popup should go away, then delete that file and any others that were created the same day in that location.
Update, people are saying they may be using different variations of a file name for the popup, look for qbmaker as well. Open task manager, right click on qbmaker and open location. Leave explorer open and right click on qbmaker in task manager and end process. The popup should go away, then delete qbmaker and any files in the directory with qbmaker that were created that day.
I am having the exact same problem and I am not opening an accountant's copy, I am using quickbooks pro (desktop) - it is beyond frustrating. I have not been in contact with Intuit beforehand - it just started happening. The support person from Intuit said it was a Windows issue but I was calling about a different issue and didn't proceed with him on this issue - wish I had now. I have tried everything - including uninstalling and reinstalling quickbooks, however, I did not clear the registry. Now I am going to delete those files and see what happens.
