Automate a way to get customer list, or fill in excel sheet

Ok, i'm the only IT guy for a metal working company. Work orders are usually faxed, and re-done by the boss or person who is at the front desk (it can be a mess there-especially now that they're having to move)

They write the work order info into a printed up excel sheet (write in by hand, after printing)

I started working on a c# application, using COM objects to fill the excel sheet in (at least some cells)-he would love it because he says his handwriting is atrocious. But (optimally) I need a way to access his customer list, and auto-fill a text input. Manually doing a CVS export to a specific file name might be a bit difficult for him, although he's gotten pretty far in learning how to do things as far as filenames and general computer stuff goes. Perhaps if he puts a new name in I can have it append to the end of the list?

I'm open to ideas anywhere from getting QB or a QB plugin i'm unaware of to maybe fill in the customer name chosen into the excel sheet they print up, or maybe a plugin (something tells me the SDK won't let me make a program in VS c# 2008 and let quickbooks access it). This is the desktop API, not online

he knows QB pretty well on the business and some of the technical end.

I've been mulling this around in my head but truthfully I don't know the steps he goes through when he gets a new work order AFA entering it into QB, after he gets the fax, or after he fills in the sheet, then enters it into QB. I probably need to get this info, but if you guys have any idea how I can make this easier on him please feel free to tell me

Explore TP Exporter to schedule exporting data to CSV and you may utilize the output with your application.

Automate a way to get customer list, or fill in excel sheet

An application to automatically print the list of customers with their work orders is truly advantageous for a metal-working company, @PaulL83. I'm here to ensure you'll get the right support in completing the said task to make it easier for them to handle transactions.

We have a separate forum that handles SDK concerns for QuickBooks Desktop API. This is the place where developers and IT guys, like you, engage with others to discuss programming concerns. I'd suggest posting your question from there. This way, our developers can provide you an accurate resolution in getting a customer list or fill in the Excel sheet with work orders. Let me guide you how.

  1. Go to this link: https://help.developer.intuit.com/s/.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop under What do you need help with?
  3. Click Ask a Question
  4. Log into your existing Intuit Developer Account or create a new one.
  5. Enter your concern.
  6. Click Ask

I've attached screenshots below that show the first to fourth steps.

You can also utilize the SDK and API topics in the API Docs & Tools menu. Then, select QuickBooks Desktop and choose SDKs or API Reference.

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help.

I'm not getting any hits on the dev site

TP Explorer is kind of expensive

Rea, not print but export. A customer list to be filled in by autocomplete

It's not a normal "metalworking" company. They make customized curtain rods for interior design companies.

@PaulL83

If you only need to export data, explore another tool. It costs $75

Hope it helps.
