Bank feed downloads

I go to my bank's website and download to quickbooks and it saves it to a pdf file that cannot be opened. I used to have no problem downloading to qbo.  Has anyone ever seen this issue? I believe it may be a setting in my computer but not sure how to fix it.

Hi there, Dmessina.

Let's make sure you're able to import your banking transactions to QuickBooks.

Just to clarify though, was the bank statement (PDF copy) downloaded directly from your bank? If so, I would suggest reaching to them to check why you're only getting PDFs instead of .qbo files.

In case they can only give you PDF copy of your statement, you can use third-party apps or websites that can convert your file. You can find them here: https://desktop.apps.com/home.

Thanks for the reply JenoP...in my apps default file section of my computer the qbo.file was defaulting to Adobe Acrobat pdf. I would like it to default to Quickbooks, which I believe would solve the problem, but can't figure out how to do that. I worked on it with a support from Intuit and he could not help other than finding a way around the problem. So for now I have a temporary fix until I can figure it out. If anyone has seen this issue, I would love to hear from you.

Hi again, Dmessina.

Thanks for giving me additional details. If this has something to do with your computer settings, I would suggest reaching out to Microsoft's support or have an IT person check on it.

Let me know if you need anything else. I'd be glad to get back here and offer my help again.

I have the same exact problem.  Is there such a thing a Microsoft support?  I am a single-proprietor small business--there is no IT person.  The QBO files I am trying to download are defaulting to an Adobe PDF program.  It's infuriating.

Yes, there is, @Clear_Solutions.

Let me grab this opportunity to get this issue sorted out for you. You can search for the Microsoft support from google or check this link for reference: https://support.microsoft.com/

In the meantime, you can consider the workaround suggested by my colleague JenoP above about looking for a third-party app that lets you convert your PDF statement to .QBO file. You can visit this link: https://desktop.apps.com/home for guidance or go to the App Center from your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) software home screen.

Once you’ve converted your PDF statement to .QBO file, you can follow these steps on how to import it in your software:

  1. Go to the Banking menu and select Bank Feeds.
  2. Click Import Web Connect Files.
  3. Select the .QBO file you saved and select Open.
  4. When prompted to Select Bank Account, select either:
    • Use an existing QuickBooks account if the account you're importing transactions into is already set up in QuickBooks.
    • Create a new QuickBooks account if the account you're importing transactions into isn't in QuickBooks yet.
  5. Click Continue and select OK.
  6. Go to the Bank Feeds Center and review your transactions.

You can also refer to the Import Web Connect (.qbo) files section in this article for the complete details: Set up bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop.

I'd also recommend checking out this link that can guide you in reconciling your accounts accurately in the future.

You’re always welcome to post a question in case you need further assistance importing your bank transactions to QBDT. I’ll be around to help you. Stay safe and well.
