Can I enter a gift card sale in my point of sale as already purchased?

Our website offers the sale of gift cards, and those purchases will be transferred to our bank via Swipe or Paypal. However, we are just a brick and mortar store, so customers can only redeem them in person. Is there a way to enter a gift card sale (from our website) in our quickbooks point of sale as already purchased, so when a customer redeems it, it is in the system and we can track it?

 I can see how important it is to track your gift card as already purchased, TNPLH.

As of now, we'll have to manually redeem the gift card in QuickBooks Point of Sale. We're unable to record it as already purchased.

Here's how:

  1. From the Home screen, select Make a Sale.
  2. Select Gift, then choose Gift Card.
  3. Click Redeem card, then enter the amount to be redeemed.
  4. Swipe or enter the gift card number, then Authorize.
  5. Once done, click Save or Save & Print.

For more details, please see this article: Sell, Recharge, or Redeem Gift Cards in QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale.

Additionally, I've added an article that'll help you personalize your reports so you can focus on the info that matters most to your business: Customize and Save a Report in QuickBooks Point of Sale.

Please keep us updated if you need additional assistance in managing your gift cards. I want to make sure your record is accurate. I'll be keeping an eye out for your response.

@TNPLH

I have a business with the same scenario.  To register the gift card in QBPOS, you will need to ring up the gift card sale and then offset the sale amount by returning an item called "Gift Card Offset" for the same amount so that the sale nets to $0.  You will need to set up a non-inventory item called "Gift Card Offset".  Ideally, you will enter the deposit from Swipe or PayPal as a sale, not as an increase in gift card liability.  Then, when you ring up the gift card in QBPOS, the sale of the gift card should go toward your gift card liability, and the Gift Card Offset item will cancel out the sale recorded from the deposit, leaving only the cash deposit and a corresponding increase in gift card liability - which is what you want.
