Buy nowI have not used QB in a few years -- due to health -- I have the back up file from the last program but not the program is not on my PC. Is there a way to migrate info from the file without the old desktop program.
Solved! Go to Solution.
My goal is to get you back to the business quickly, @SandyGSD. We can work together so you can migrate your QuickBooks Desktop file successfully to QuickBooks Online.
If you are using the QuickBooks Desktop 2019 version, you can use a trial version and login with your credentials from there, as suggested by Fiat Lux - ASIA, then restore your company and proceed to create a backup file.
Nonetheless, if you are using an outdated version, we will need to move your books from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online with an online tool. The tool is capable of transferring data from various types of QuickBooks files, including QuickBooks company files (.QBW), portable files (.QBM), backup files (.QBB), and QuickBooks Desktop for Mac files (if you save a backup for Windows as .qbb). Feel free to follow the detailed steps in this article: Move your books to QuickBooks Online with an online tool.
We value your time and understand the importance of a seamless experience. Our team will work closely with you to guide you through the resolution process, ensuring that you are fully informed and involved every step of the way.
Welcome you to the Community space, SandyGSD. It's our pleasure to provide you with information regarding backing up files in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
We'd like to express our gratitude for choosing QuickBooks as your preferred tool for managing your business activities. To better assist you, we would like to determine the specific versions of QBDT that are installed on your PC, both the old and the new. This information will allow us to offer you the most appropriate options and guidance.
It is important to note that QBDT follows a three-year life cycle. If there is a three-year difference between your old and new QBDT versions, you can easily restore your backup file without encountering any issues. For instance, if you are currently using QBDT 2020, you can easily restore your backup file in QBDT 2021, 2022, or 2023.
Additionally, we highly recommend having an extra backup file when restoring it to a newer version. Once the backup file has been restored and opened in the newer version, it will no longer be compatible with the previous version. Thus, it is crucial to ensure that you have a backup file readily available in case you need to access it in the older version again.
