changing a bonus paycheck to retirement contribution

I paid myself a bonus and would like to change the classification to a 401K contribution so it shows on the W2.   What steps would I need to go through to back this out? Taxes on the bonus have been paid.

Hello there, dougnickels.

If the paycheck is not yet processed, you can change the classification to a 401K contribution by following the steps below:

  1. Go Payday and select Paycheck List.
  2. Select the paycheck you want to edit. Then, click Edit so you can make the necessary edits.
  3. Click Deduct more slowly. Then, enter the amount to be deducted from each paycheck.
  4. Then, hit Save and close.

If the paycheck has been processed already, we can contact our payroll specialist.  They'll help you in changing the classification to a 401K contribution.  Another way is to use this link

Thank you for your response.

The bonus check has already been processed.  I can not connect to a payroll specialist through the link that you provided.  Also the chat does not work.  Is there another way to connect?

Thanks again.

The contact support page does not work.  I can get to a form and submit then nothing happens.  Quite frustrating.

Thanks for visiting us here today, @golfer55.

I have some information about getting in touch with one of our support agents. Let's access the contact page via a private browser. This browsing doesn’t store data and will help the page load without issues from temporary data.

Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + P (Mozilla Firefox).
  • Press Command + Shift + N (Safari).

Once done, go back to the steps provided by my colleague @Divina_MercyN. You can also try accessing our support using our QBO test drive. Here's the link to get there: Test drive QuickBooks Online.

I'm attaching these handy articles for additional reference.

Additionally, here's a guide that covers all tasks you can do when using the payroll feature.

Keep me posted if you still have questions or concerns with payroll. I'm always here to help. Cheers to a grand and successful New Year ahead.

I was able to finally connect with support through a different browser.  Took awhile but we worked it all out. Thanks.
