Crashes on Sonoma

Glad that is working for at least some of you. Yes, QuickBooks->Preferences... is renamed by some versions of macOS to be QuickBooks->Settings...  (Sonoma included). So choose whichever menu option is available on the macOS you are running.

If you are unable to open the Settings/Preferences window you can try altering that option in the Terminal application.

1. Quit QuickBooks

2. Open the Terminal application (its in /Application/Utilities)

3. type the following command:

defaults write com.intuit.QuickBooks20xx localTabbingPref false

Where you replace the 'xx' with the version year of QuickBooks (for example 21 for QuickBooks Mac 2021).

Then launch QuickBooks and hopefully tabbing will be off and the crash will be avoided. The Home Page may still crash if you bring it up so avoid using that window.

QuickBooks Mac 2024 update for these crashes has been released. If you are running 2024 you can install the update by choose QuickBooks->Check for Updates...  (it may take some time for it to become available as it propagates through the Internet servers).

If QuickBooks is crashing on launch hold down the option key when launching. This will prevent it from opening your company file. You should then be able to choose QuickBooks->Check for Updates...

Updates for older supported versions will follow.

On the other hand, upgrading to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac 2024 is currently available to our Accountants Group only. We have not yet made it available to the general population. Instead, we have specifically released it to our Accountant Group, enabling them to familiarize themselves with it ahead of our official launch. If you have an accountant version, you can log in to CAMPs directly to download and obtain their license/product numbers.

@boan

You are using QBD 2019, correct? I'm not sure they will release any patches to support Sonoma. I'm also not sure you'll find QBD 2021 with a non-subscription license at this time. If you don't want to pay any annual subscription, consider switching to QB Desktop Windows version to run on Parallels. If you don't mind using the trial version of QB Desktop, you can use it for good to keep managing your multi company files.

Thanks for this information.  I’ve been a loyal QBDT user for decades, and I remain loyal because I loathe QB online.  This incident, however, may have turned me off Quickbooks permanently.  Like everyone else, I downloaded Sonoma 14.0 last night (Sept 27).  Today when I tried to open one of my QB files…it crashed immediately.

I’ve now been on the phone with Apple for approx 1.5 hour trying to restore everything - fortunately I have everything backed up on an external hard drive.  I expect the process to take at least another 2 hours.  But getting my functionality back will not excuse the incompetence at Intuit.

Guess what, Intuit?  I will NOT purchase your online version because it sucks.  I’ll take my business - and my clients’ businesses - elsewhere.

What version is it that you claim is compatible with Sonoma. I have the latest and QB for Mac won't run at all. Doesn't sound very compatible to me.

Wow, that's quite the statement given apple released this to developers back in April I think it was. That's a lot of weeks and the announced release date has been known for a very long time. What a lousy lie, I mean excuse.

I'm an end user and I did patch my QBMac 2014 version and as written earlier, it is working perfectly.

Earlier versions such as 2021-2023 are not yet compatible.  (I am also waiting on the 2021 patch!!)

I sure hope they will.  I would have to pay over $500/mo to have the same functionality.  Not going to happen.  If they don't fix it adios QuickBooks.

I hope they will, it will be painful but I'm not going to switch twice, if I have to switch I'm outta here.

I feel exactly the same. I've been with them for DECADES.  QB2019 is just fine (minus the functionality they stole took away last year.  I'm a small business with just me, no employees but I have 8 company files. Their subscription schemes wold cost me $400+ per month for the same thing.

If they don't fix 2019 I think its adios amigos because I'm not going to endure the pain of switching twice.

well this whole thing suck and at the end of the day I don't care.

it QB says 2024 Mac Application is the only one supported I will buy it, screw it. but they hide all the options to buy license for one user for Mac app. everything points to online stuff. I do not want online at this point for whatever reasons.

QB should come out and clear things up: either you go online or somewhere else (but where? everything is online today), here is a tool for $30 to extract your data from our proprietary s****y half-a*s proprietary database that we cannot handle, or here is a link to pay $200 and get a latest version.

it's mind blowing, this repeated saga with QB and pretty much every other max os upgrade.

Please dear Intuit - either have resources to fix versions 2019-2024 or give a clear link to upgrade to latest version at reasonable price. thanks!

Just to be clear:  are you confirming that QBDT 2023 IS compatible with Sonoma 14?  I don’t mind upgrading, but not if I have to go through this process  of deleting and restoring again.

Has this been tested by Intuit?  Is it safe to go back in the water?

@khakhovich

As I know they will release QBD 2024 Mac Plus next Tuesday starting at $649 + tax. However you may need to call their sales team to purchase it. Alternatively, you can buy it through selected partners.

@boan

What do you mean with "per month"? They offer QB Desktop US version with annual subscription. Monthly subscription is valid for QB Desktop Canadian version only.

Running QB'19

I was able to create a 2nd drive, load Venura 13.6, and restore an copy of my main drive from time machine.

Now I can boot into the 2nd drive to work in QB'19 which I cant imagine QB ever supporting again.

It took several hours but 100% works - and since Im not a programer I used help from this site
