Crashes on Sonoma

hi everyone, Sonoma 14.1 is available to general public.

I have tested my QB2019 and it seems to be working without crashing. Please update your MAC to 14.1.

however, given all my experiences with QB over the last 8 years - they lost all my respect.

Unless Intuit is doing something reasonable about pricing and product support - I am taking this year to ride out my qb2019 (now that it is working again) and switching away.

I updated to Sonoma 14.1 today 10/25/23 and thankfully my QB 2019 seems to be working. I haven't tried every activity but I can at least open companies, write checks, and make deposits.Thank you Apple for making the fixes. Absolutely no thanks to Intuit. I will continue to use my QB 2019 for the time being but I am definitely going to explore some other personal finance software that is not Intuit because they just aren't into customer service.

Wave is an online accounting software. It’s a lot like into it online solution. The biggest difference being that it is free. They make their money hoping that you will use them for online payments and use them as the credit card processor.

pretty much does everything Ss does, at least 2019. But it does more stuff. Have an app for your phone, you can create links for people to pay invoices, it just does everything. Some people might disagree, but for me once I started setting that up, I started to see a lot of cool things that I didn’t have in 2019. so although I could go back to my 2019 QuickBooks, I know it’s just a matter of time before we have another episode like this one. Since I don’t want to have a yearly subscription where I keep buying the software every year, I might as well get it for free and have it in the cloud.

I appreciate the non-QB employees on this thread. I was fortunate enough to NOT update to Sonoma when it was first released, but can imagine the pain of those who did and were left stranded. There was some great advice on this forum...and non of it came from QB. This included:

- Download QB 2021 so you can at least open and see you QB 2019 data until the trial ends

- Create a Virtual Machine and run Ventura on this. (that was an incredibly helpful tip)

- Introducing us to free alternatives such as Wave

- And letting us know that the the newly released version of Sonoma allows QB 2019 to work once again.

I don't blame QB for not supporting QB 2019...but I do blame the for not letting folks know that the initial version of Sonoma would brick QB 2019. I guarantee they knew it and chose not to tell us, so they could hard sell us on perpetual and pricey annual subscriptions.

I have downloaded the QBDT 2021 for Mac installer. I am currently using QBDT 2019 for Mac.

1. If I run the 2021 installer, will it let me pay for an upgrade to 2021 and continue to use my Desktop QB?

2. Will QBDT 2021 run under Sonoma?

Thank you for your help, and PLEASE bring back the desktop version. I would happily pay for a reasonable annual upgrade. I just do not want all of my accounting data on the cloud.

@Cruiseman

You can run QBD 2019 on Sonoma 14.1

Why do you need to upgrade it to a newer version? You need to purchase a new license.

Why do I need to purchase a new license? I thought 2019 was incompatible with Sonoma?

@Cruiseman

Make sure to update your MacOS to 14.1 and try running your QBD 2019.

I heard 2019 worked with the latest release of Sonoma. I got so disgusted by the whole thing I moved to Wave and bid good riddance to quickbooks.

from what I hear you’ll be ok for the near future as long as you are on the latest Sonoma.

Thank you for dropping by the Community and sharing your concern about upgrading QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, Cruiseman. We understand that you have downloaded the QBDT 2021 installer while currently using QBDT 2019 for Mac. Let me share some information that could help you.

Just to set your expectation Mac OS Sonoma is no longer compatible with 2019. In case you want to continue using the QuickBooks Mac 2019. To be able to continue using QuickBooks MAc 2019, you will need to have an OS Catalina 10.15 to OS Monterey 12.0.

On the other hand, yes, you are correct. If you run the QuickBooks Desktop Mac 2021 installer, it will allow you to pay for an upgrade to the 2021 version and continue using your Desktop QB. During the installation process, you will be prompted to enter your payment information and complete the upgrade. And QuickBooks Desktop Mac 2021 is compatible with Sonoma. You should be able to run QBDT 2021 smoothly on Sonoma-based Macs.

Wait, what?

QB2019 is running on 14.1. I have been using it for invoicing successfully. Are there specific features that do not work on QB 2019?

How long will QB 2021 be supported if someone updates now?

I also heard updating to QB 2021 now only allows for annual subscriptions vs. non-subscription? Correct?

Are you allowing 2019 users to update to 2021 and remain non-subscription? If so, what is the cost?

Yea, except for the fact that NO ONE can find anywhere to BUY a 2021 license so this is a mute point.  If you go to 2021 you'll have to perpetually run it on trial mode.

From what the reports out there say, 14.1 will run with 2019 even if they "don't support it". they "don't support it" anyway, if anything goes wrong with any part of 2019 they'll tell you to go suck an egg.

2021 is just like 2019, it is also the last version they did where you didn't have to "buy" the software EVERY year (subscription).

You are testimony that 14.1 works with 2019.  even if it doesn't Intuit basically considers anyone with 2019 or older "dead to them".

You are not up to date JamesAndrewM. Apple kindly fixed the problem when they released Sonoma 14.1 last week. QB 2019 is now working again on Macs, no thanks to Quickbooks.

What is the cost when you upgrade from 2019 to 2021 using a 2021 installer?  Curious

boan

That is the problem, they don't sell it.

They only allow you to buy 2024 which is a yearly subscription.  MANY of us would have upgraded to 2021 if we could have.  there are no known licenses for sale--certainly not by Intuit or anyone else in this forum.

I've been using QB 2019 for the last several days with the updated version of Sonoma and while it is certainly operational, I am getting frequent crashed on deposit entries. It usually occurs when typing a few letters into one of the fields and either:

- it crashes completely

-whatever you type isn't visible...but is it still there if you hit enter.

My solution when this happens is to reopen and type just one or two letters into the field and then use the drop down to find the actual item. That seems to work. If it is a case of nothing showing in the field, I just finish the entry, go to the next field, and it magically appears.

Has anyone upgraded to Sonoma 14.1 and then been able to use QB desktop 2020>

I see some 2019 QB users say yes but no 2020 users.

Has anyone upgraded to Sonoma 14.1 and had success running 2020?

I see a few saying they are able to run QBDT2019 but haven't seen QBDT2020 yet.
