Credit Card Vendor Refund

I bought office supplies through Amazon with a company credit card. I posted it as an expense in QuickBooks Desktop. When it arrived, it was the wrong ink so I returned it. In between, the credit card statement with the charge came through and it was reconciled. When I get confirmation the purchase was refunded, I input it in QuickBooks as a credit card credit.  I just received my July statement and the credit is listed on the credit card statement. When trying to reconcile this month, all my transactions are there but if I include the credit, I have a negative reconciliation balance. I am not sure what to do. Please help.

Thank you for posting here in the Community about the refund on your credit card. I'm here to assist you with reconciling your account in QuickBooks Desktop.

 

I can see that you've already reviewed the included transactions for July. At the end of each reconciliation, the difference between the ending balance in QuickBooks and your credit card statement should be $0.00. 

 

Since you're getting a negative balance, I recommend performing troubleshooting steps. You'll need to review the balances and transactions to fix the problem.

 

I recommend following the recommended instructions in the order shown in this article: Fix issues when you're reconciling in QuickBooks Desktop.

 

If the credit card statement shows a negative balance, make sure to enter the negative balance during the reconciliation process (see screenshot below). Then when you mark off all the transactions that cleared, the totals will match.
