if i purchase the QuickBooks program for a desk top, will everything transfer over?

If you're upgrading from an older desktop version, then yes QuickBooks will automatically upgrade and open your company file retaining all data in it.

Which QB Desktop year version do you have now? You can still purchase the one time license for QBD 2021 if required. If you prefer to use QBD 2022/2023 Pro Plus or Mac Plus, you have to purchase licenses from selected partners/resellers at this time.
