Hello, community. What are other QBD users doing about the new e-filing requirement for 1099 Forms starting January 2024. Since most businesses will be required to e-file the information returns, and quickbooks desktop is already able to e-file (for free) all the W-2 and 940/941 forms, seems like there should be a free option in QBD...or at least a somewhat painless (free) work around. I know there is the paid version within QBD, but I am really not interested in that if I can help it. I'm starting to gather information now, in hopes that there will be options by January. Thanks in advance.
I can provide you with more information about e-filing 1099s in QuickBooks Desktop, .
It is possible to create your 1099s within QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). If you decide to e-file your forms, they will be imported to Tax1099 where you can e-file and monitor the filing status. Please note that there will be an additional fee if you choose to e-file your forms from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). However, setting free e-filings for several forms would be advantageous for other users, so I'll take note of it. I also encourage you to leave feedback from your account.
Here are the steps:

In case you need to make any corrections with your 1099, refer to this Tax1099 article, What kinds of corrections can I make to 1099 forms after they have been submitted?.
Also, you can file 1099s directly with the IRS using their new Information Returns Intake System (IRIS). To learn more about the requirements, and how to register with IRIS, see E-file Forms 1099 with IRIS.

Thanks for your reply...I have posted a product suggestion, but I am not holding my breath. Really just needing a plan so that January is not atrocious.
I agree that QB Desktop should have the option to file the 1099s for free.
How easy will the import into TAX1099 functionality be?
The importing process into TAX1099 is easy, DEngleCPA. I'll gladly show you how to do this task accordingly.
After creating your 1099s in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), select the E-file button to follow the onscreen steps to import your data into your Tax1099 account. Then, you'll see the Dashboard displaying the list of vendors, amounts, and boxes. From there, do the following to complete the procedure:
Once you're done, check your filing status.

Thanks for your reply, but my original post really refers to Intuit finding a solution to e-file 1099 forms, THAT IS FREE SINCE WE ALREADY PAY INTUIT SO MUCH.
Can you tell us how much Quickbooks charges to file them for us through the Tax 1099 program? As others have stated, we already pay exhorbitant prices for the Quickbooks software and just as much again for the payroll subscription!! Is there any version of Quickbooks that includes this service for free in their subscription?
We understand the significance of every penny, Skeeter57. Your feedback is valued, and we also hope that the QBDT subscription could encompass the e-filing of 1099 forms within its services. We recognize the importance of clear pricing and the value you place on the services you receive. Let me share some information about this matter.
For the most current and accurate pricing details regarding e-filing and subscription inclusions, we recommend visiting the Tax1099 website. They provide comprehensive information about their services and pricing, which can help you make an informed decision about your e-filing needs.

It is not Quickbooks, as they clearly are washing their hands of any solution. They are partnering with a 3rd party app that charges the fees. It is structured where the cost per 1099 decreases, the more you buy. Still crazy that Quickbooks can e-file W-2 forms and 941 forms without a hiccup, but have just ignored the looming 1099 e-file requirement fast approaching.
Does QB provide the template for the 1099 IRIS filing or do we have to go fill out all the information again on IRIS site? IRIS has an enrollment for software developers, so it would seem logical that QB would have signed up and provided this for their users. Now I have to sign up as a third party transmitter and go through the whole application process and re-enter all my info? This is not good.
I have been asking for this for months...
Yearli looks like it will file them for free. What is the catch? Does anyone know anything about them?
I just looked at it also. If you enter the number of forms you would be submitting it shows the charges even on the "free account". I guess there is no subscription charge but they still charge by the number of forms, which was again quite high.
@4Gal what is your link referencing? I am hesitant to click links...
No it is not easy and it is costly. Im working on finding some other method, I used it last year and essentially had to load all the info again and still am not sure if they were efiled with my state. The tech support was sketchy and seemed not to be US based.
@jtosspon which one is not easy to use...the Tax1099 that QBD is pushing or another program?
You must register on the IRS IRIS site to be able to efile 1099's with the IRS. I have contacted QB numerous times since September to find out if they will have a template in the .csv format that IRIS requires. No one seems to know what IRIS is. They just refer me to TAX1099. I used TAX 1099 in 2020. I had to correct ALL of my 1099's. They pulled old information (like mailing addresses) and had numerous mistakes that were difficult to correct in their system. Then we paid for them to file them!
Check out the IRS eFiling Services at:
Here you can register for an eServices PIN and access to the IRIS - Information Returns Intake System and file 1099 forms for free and download a copy to send to the 1099 Recipient.
Then review this tech note to export the data in the correct format to file with IRIS:
Best,
Jason Palmer.
How do you export csv file to import into IRIS system for 1099s? I am in Desktop not Online?
I'm trying to e-file my 1099's but the process appears to be stalled. The page just says "e-file processing". It hasn't changed in hours. What can I do?
Hi there, @dragonfly2.
Let me provide some information on what the Processing status means when filing your 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
QBDT simplifies the task of filing 1099s for your contractors by using the information in your account to prepare your forms. Once you've prepared and filed your 1099s, you can head back to your Tax1099 account to check your status. I'll list the different status types below for you.
In your case, there are no extra steps to take at the moment. You'll just need to wait if the IRS accepts or rejects your forms.
You can check out this article for details on how to check your submission status: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop. It also contains information on how to correct, view, and print 1099s.
For future use, here's a helpful article about checking your historical tax payments and forms in QuickBooks: View your previously filed tax forms and payments.

Intuit is such a mess, they have become so greedy. I don't see that there is a solution to efile 1099's through QB Desktop. You have to sign up for a monthly service plan with Intuit that starts at $7.50 month and includes them paying your contractors. Does this make any sense at all for a REAL business with in house accounting? I think not. I'm so pissed at Intuit and the continuing pressure to pay an annual fee to keep our desktop product and/or switch to that lousy product called QB Online.
I didn't know about the new efile rule so I'm scurrying.to find a solution.
