We are trying Avalara...hesitant to give Intuit any more money and I'm sure they are getting a kickback from Tax1099. Avalara is a pay per 1099 price structure, but they do have a bulk rate if you send more than 100 forms. Still a little bit of a process, but I think it will do the job. The IRIS system is painful, although free. This time of year we choose to pay for less pain...
You can easily export and/or integrate using https://www.tax1099.com/
They have a plug in to grab the data from Quickbooks Desktop.
You will export to Excel format from Quickbooks Desktop.
Thanks, AnneMariee! This info really helps. Much appreciated!
Good morning, @dragonfly2.
Thanks for joining back in on this thread.
I'm glad my colleague was able to provide you with some helpful details.
We're only a post away if you need us. Have a wonderful day!
Tax 1099 charges per 1099 filed!! Has anyone used them for filing in 2023 or 2022? How was your experience? I used them in 2020 and it was a nightmare. All that QuickBooks needed was a report in the CSV format that could be uploaded into the IRIS system for IRS. Intuit should have sent a message to all QB users instructing them how to register for IRIS at least 60 days before the end of the year (this registration can take up to 45 days). Once we registered and ran the CSV report, we could all been set to comply with the new IRS ruling. Thanks, Intuit, for not responding to numerous questions about the CSV report and the IRIS system for months by phone and chats - you have left your customers scrambling to comply with the IRS.
I feel EXACTLY the same way!
Extremely unprofessional on Intuit's part. I used to work for SAP and specialized in the HR/Payroll module. We worked every year with the IRS to ensure the software would meet the requirements of the IRS for the slightest change on any form or e-filing requirements. QuickBooks couldn't even be bothered to make sure the 1099s they printed had the year formatted correctly to match the IRS form. Very sloppy for the money they are gouging their customer base.
This is a major fail on the behalf of the accounting software giant. I do not think the IRS will blame any Intuit customer for assuming that since QuickBooks e-files W-2s, Form 940, 941, and even state unemployment tax returns for free, that they would comply with the IRS e-filing requirements on the 1099s. So we have to wait 45 days for our application to efile through the IRS for free and our 1099s are late. That is not on us, that is on the software giant we paid to provide accounting solutions to keep us in compliance with IRS regulations. Without the 1099s, the IRS remains unaware of earnings by contractors. I have never heard of anyone penalized for filing 1099s late. Better late than never.
In addition, Intuit failed to notify their customers that they chose to be non-compliant with IRS regulations and that their customers would be required to pay a third party to efile their 1099-NEC forms. So any claims the company makes about tax compliance and adherence to tax regulations are utter BS since they made the choice that their software would be non-compliant for the 1099 e-filing requirement and pawned it off on some third party. Since they chose to be non-compliant on this requirement, on what others will they be?
Luckily my application only took about a week to get approved but I did it back in November. Hopefully yours will not take long either.
There is no direct export to the IRS IRIS format.
A trick is to export into tax1099.com from QBO or QB Desktop THEN Export the data from Tax1099 to an Excel file (on the review page) and do a few column moves to get the data to match the IRIS Template.
Still a little confused. I use QB Pro desktop. Can I file a single 1099-Misc at no charge?
The new rule this year is that if you have a combined total of W-2 and 1099 (NEC, MISC, INT, etc) of 10 or more, you are required to e-file all W-2 and 1099. W-2 e-file is a breeze in desktop...has been for years. It is the 1099 forms that are the problem.
If you have only the (1) 1099 form and no W-2 forms, you can paper file...you will need to purchase the red copy forms to send in to the government and the black forms to send to the vendors, though (QBD also prints this just fine).
If you want to e-file, Avalara has worked well for us, but it is not free. The free IRS system (IRIS) has been problematic for us, and if you don't already have the log in info, you would want to apply now (maybe you will get your special codes in a few weeks).
1099-MISC is not due to the government until 2/28 if paper file and 3/31 if e-filing; however, the recipient copy is supposed to be mailed by January 31.. The 1099-NEC are due January 31 to both recipients and IRS. Hope that helps.
Hi topjob,
I'm here to share more information when filing 1099 forms.
As of now, when you e-file 1099, the system will route you to the Payment page. Wherein, the system will ask for an additional e-filing fee.
Furthermore, you can check this reference on how you can file 1099: Create and file 1099.
You can always post in the forum whenever you have concerns about filing the contractor's form.
And it has worked on about 10% of my client's QBs companies. So frustrating this year!!! I just want to put them all in the mail.
Hi there! Navigating the new e-filing requirements for 1099 Forms can indeed be challenging. While QuickBooks Desktop (QBD) offers free e-filing for form 1099-NEC & 1099-MISC, the 1099 forms are a bit different. As you mentioned, QBD does have a paid e-filing option for 1099s, but if you’re looking for a more cost-effective solution, TaxBandits might be the answer you’re seeking.
TaxBandits is an IRS-authorized e-file provider that offers a seamless e-filing experience for your 1099 forms. It’s designed to be user-friendly and efficient, ensuring that your e-filing process is as smooth as possible. With TaxBandits, you can easily import your data from QBD and e-file your 1099 forms directly to the IRS. Plus, TaxBandits provides comprehensive support to guide you through the e-filing process, making January less daunting.
Starting in tax year 2023, businesses with 10 or more combined 1099s, W-2s, or other federal forms are required to file them electronically. TaxBandits not only meets this requirement but also offers competitive pricing, which could be particularly beneficial for small businesses and independent contractors looking to comply without incurring high costs.
I understand the importance of finding a reliable and affordable e-filing service, and I believe TaxBandits could be the viable solution you’re looking for. It’s worth exploring their services to see how they can meet your e-filing needs for the upcoming tax season. Hope this helps!"
This response highlights the benefits of TaxBandits while acknowledging the user’s concern about finding a free or low-cost solution for e-filing 1099 forms. It also provides information about the new e-filing requirements, positioning TaxBandits as a helpful tool for compliance.
