Enterprise - setup role for dept outside of Accounting dept

Thanks for hopping into the Community. Let me share you with some insight about setting up user access in QuickBooks Desktop, ShulyM. 

I know how beneficial it is to your business to setup a role with permission to view only the Accounts Receivable (such as customer invoices and open invoices and paid customer invoices). However, this is unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. We can only create transactions under the Selective Access section as shown in the screenshot below:

With this said, I'd recommend sending this request straight to our product engineers through feedback. Sharing features and options that you would like implemented is how our engineers look for new product updates. Here's how: 

1. Go to the Help menu and select Send Feedback Online.
2. Choose Product Suggestion.
3. Fill in the details needed and click Send Feedback.

Here's an article you can refer to for more details about creating and managing users and roles in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. If you need to view all roles and their permissions, just run a Permission Access by Roles report. Let me show you how: 

1. Go to the Company menu, then select Users.
2. Tap Set Up Users and Roles.
3. Enter the admin password, then press OK.
4. Hit the Role List tab, then select View Permissions.
5. Choose the roles you want to review, then press Display.

can I set up a user to permit access to specific GL accounts, such as to the COGS account type and nothing else?

we use QB ENTERPRISE 22

I recognize how important it is to your business to set up a user who can only access specific GL accounts, such as the COGS. However, this is also unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. 

The GL account is under the Accountant role, designed for your bookkeeping and accounting staff. It has access to activities like Journal entries, Chart of Accounts, Setting Closing, etc.

Hopefully in the future Intuit would be able to add extra parameters and further levels to the roles outside the accounting department. It would be  more efficient if other users from various departments access the system.
