I am having issues when restoring files from a full Desktop Pro 2009 backup to a Desktop Pro 2019 version. I successfully have restored 1 of my 16 company files so far, but the last 6 have failed after attempting to perform the upgrade. The file appears to restore fine. When I attempt to open it after restore, I am prompted for password. Once I put in the password, it prompts me to update. After I click the update button, it appears to be converting. Then, at the end, it tells me it couldn't update my company file. Has anyone else experienced this? I can tell you that the only successful conversion I have had so far required me to rename the company file by removing special characters in the name. But this did not help the company files that are now failing.

Thank you for the speedy response. I ended up downloading and installing the QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2012 Trial and upgrading all my companies to that version from the 2009 version. I then proceeded to install the QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2015 Trial and again converted and upgraded all of the files. Finally, I went back into my 2019 version and had no issues upgrading the company files to the latest version. It took an awful long time (approximately 8 hours) to perform the upgrades in this manner, but I was able to get it done and ultimately made my customer happy! Lesson learned here: Do not let the software get too far out of date! :)
Before you update your company files, let's make sure these files are not damaged or corrupted, Thomas.
We can do the Verify and Rebuild Data process to get rid of any data-integrity issues on your company file. You can use this article for reference: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.
After that, you can try converting your files to QuickBooks Pro 2019 again. You might also want to browse these articles for additional information about the process:

I am currently trying to update my company file QBW from Quickbooks CA Pro 2009 to 2012 but cannot find a download for 2012 trial version anywhere. Any chance you could share the link?
Thanks
Hello Luke1685,
The trial links that aren't supported by QuickBooks is unavailable. If you need to gradually upgrade your company file from 2009 to 2012 and then to 2019, I'd suggest reaching out to our customer support team. They have the links that will walk you though the bridging process.
Here's how:
Let me know if you need more help. Have a good one!
hi @Luke1685 ,
Please ensure you are asking Intuit Support to give you the trial license of Canadian (CA) version as well. But if you want migrating to US version, you have to purchase a conversion service.
Having same issue. Can you send links to the 2 trial versions or share the files?
I'm having same issue. Can you share links to the 2 Trial versions you used?
Hey Luke, Did you ever find a link for the trial 2012 or 2015?
I noticed the member you asked for the trial license is not available in the community any longer. You should google any trial license in the web for free but beware for any scam or malicious file installer. Consider purchasing a 3rd party file upgrade service to help you.
I'd like to share some information, DjTrex.
For the trial links, we only have the latest version. You can check out this article for more details: Download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop.
If you have the QuickBooks Desktop license and want to upgrade to the latest version, you'll want to go to this link to download the 2012 and 2015 versions: Downloads & Updates.
Otherwise, look for you license here: Locate Your License or Product Number.
Please don't hesitate to comment on this thread if there's anything else you need. Thanks.
I did this and tried to use a legit license and product number from a 2016 to activate the 2012 Download from your link and i got an error incorrect license or product numbers. I'm reading them right off the package.
RenjolynC, your solution did not work. I logged in and downloaded the 2012 and 2015 files. While installing 2012 i used a legit License and Product code from a 2016 product. This gave me an error that license or product number is wrong. How am i supposed to activate the 2012 if i don't have a 2012 product license? I gathered from your reply that i could use a valid product code from a newer version to activate the 2012 download.
Use the license code of QB 2016 on QB 2016 only.
