Errors in data upload to Quickbooks Online

I have uploaded my data from 2019 Quickbooks Desktop Mac to Quickbooks Online.  All account balances appear to be correct.

However, I have noticed that the names of Clients are missing from a number of transactions.

 

Typically, I enter Deposits in one of two ways:

1) When I receive an initial retainer from a client, I have entered that deposit right into the Bank Register, and then set up the client "Customer" using the pop-up window.

2) When I complete a project for the client, I bill for the work with Invoices.  When I receive payment it is recorded by way of Receive Payment.

 

In looking at my Quickbooks Online data, for any deposit that was recorded in the Bank Register using #1 above, that client name DOES NOT appear in the deposit.  There is a blank line.  Running a report by client "Customer,"  that initial retainer does not get associated with that client.

Is there some easy way to rectify this?

I'll give an overview on why those deposits didn't have an assigned client name after migration. I'll also throw in a solution to help you rectify this. 

 

There are some transaction and customer data that won't import into QuickBooks Online. It's mostly how these entries are recorded in the Mac version, but the system mechanics are different in the Online version. 

 

To rectify this in QuickBooks Online, you'll want to manually re-assign the customer name to your deposits. 

 

You can pull up a report to see all of your deposits. Then, open them one at a time to assign your client or customer name. I recommend using the Deposit Detail report (go to Reports, then look for it in the Search box). Customize the report if needed.

Thanks for your reply.  However, correcting this involves going back through 20 years of data...  I need to keep track of what I've billed each client/customer, so that I am equipped for future transactions with them.

 

I will therefore switch to the Desktop Mac Plus plan, as that appears to carry over the data correctly.
