Get 50% OFF QuickBooks for 3 months*
Buy nowI have a new client who would like to start a new company file (QBO) because they want a clean start and errors/open invoices/etc..go back years. If I export and then reimport into the new company file, what do I lose? For example I can import the customers, but do I lose the history of their invoices and their payments?
What else will not be able to move over using export/import ?
I am more inclined to keep the old company file, then work on clean up.
It's great to see you here, @KB01,
I want to make sure you have a trouble-free conversion. I'll be sharing some tips on how you can restore data from two QBO accounts.
At the moment, there isn't a direct tool to restore the entire company file from one QuickBooks Online account to another. For now, exporting data is limited to reports and selected lists, and import data such as, Bank Data, Customers, Vendors, Chart of Accounts, Products and Services, and Invoices.
This means that not all data is converted when you manually do the export and import process. See the following links to learn more about this features:
But don't worry, we have a list of third-party apps that is QBO compatible to perform the data transfer for you. Doing so, you no longer need to convert the files one at a time.
Consider checking out for third-party apps that handles data conversion between QuickBooks platforms. Visit our applications website here: https://apps.intuit.com/app/apps/home. Look for the keyword "restore" or "backup" to filter the applications.
We also have another channel called Intuit Developers. There you can find engineers who can recommend third-party applications for you to use with the conversion. Here's the link to the website: Intuit Developers Community.
If you need additional help with the conversion, feel free to reach out back to me. I'm always here to provide further assistance. Have a good one!
You may have 2 options:
1. Utilize a migration tool

2. Purchase a 3rd party migration service.
