When you export data from Quickbooks into another Company does it delete that data from the original company?

Exporting Files

I'm here to shed a light on this matter, Ap35.

If you're moving your QuickBooks Desktop company file to QuickBooks Online, your QBDT file will replace your QBO file and overwrite any existing information. We'll also have to consider that we can only import the QuickBooks Desktop data within the first 60 days of your QuickBooks Online company start date. You can refer to this link to learn more about the process of converting the QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

I also encourage you to read this article to know what are the data that can't be converted when you migrate from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Onl....

If you're referring to importing IIF or MS Excel files to another QuickBooks Desktop company, it will simply bring the data into it and won't overwrite any existing information of your QBDT file. Through IIF/MS Excel, we can import data like your bank transactions, accountant’s changes, general journal entries, and batch transactions. All the processes and steps in doing it are discussed in the articles below:

Ok thank you. Just to clarify, I am wanting to export everything except my payroll records to another company file on Quickbooks desktop. So you're saying that my original company file will not be edited at all correct?

That is correct, Ap35.

When exporting data in QuickBooks Desktop, it only creates a similar file and won't affect the existing one. You can create multiple company files and rest assured nothing will be changed on the original one.

Aside from the what KlentB shared, you can also create a new company file from your existing one. This is applicable if you don't have payroll transactions for the current year. This method won't be able to remove your payroll data for the current year. That means, all payroll transactions from previous years will not be included when creating a new file. This also won't affect your existing file. You can read this guide for more details: Create new company files from existing ones in QuickBooks Desktop.

You can tag my name if you have more clarifications. I'll be glad to help.
