file manager

File Manager does not recognize the client file passwords stored in the vault. I uninstalled & reinstalled the 2021 software and the problem remains.

Intuit should make this a stand alone program and FIX, otherwise it is worthless.

Hi there, @docharv. I'll take care of your query about QuickBooks File Manager.

The issue may be due to an incorrect password or damaged Windows user permission. You can perform these recommended solutions below aside from uninstalling and reinstalling:

To get started, create Windows users and give them administrator rights to make any changes so QuickBooks Desktop runs properly. Then enable hidden admin in Windows. Let me show you how.

  1. Open the command prompt in Administrator mode.
  2.   * Right-click the Windows Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin).
  3.   * If you get a User Account Control window that asks for permission, select Yes.
  4. On the command prompt, type net user administrator /active: yes.
  5. Wait for the confirmation that the command was successful then log out.
  6. The login screen will now show the Administrator account.

Also, you can reset your password setting by going to the Password Vault in your QuickBooks File Manager. This is where your username and password are saved for any Company File that you have. All you have to do is go to Password Vault and click Change Password Vault. After adjusting the login information, sign out and log back in.

You can use this link on how you can manage your Password Vault: Learn the basics about QuickBooks File Manager.

I'd also recommend keeping your QuickBooks release version up to date to get rid of any minor issues.

Additionally, I encourage you to check our Account management page in case you want to learn some tips and best practices in managing your QBDT.

I'm a few clicks away to help if you have any other questions. Just leave a comment below. Take care always.

I agree - we purchased a program that they knew was broke.  This needs to be a priority
