Hello!
I'm using QBO.
I frequently find that I start creating an invoice for an existing customer/client and then I find some of their info is out of date. Is there an easy way to get to the edit screen for the customer that has been selected for the invoice. Right now my process in this case is:
- open the new invoice screen
- see the customer info needs updating
- close the new invoice and go to customers
- search for the client, click to the edit screen
- go back and start the invoice again
Seems like there should be an easier way to do this without closing out the new invoice screen. Any tips?
I know you can change some things like the address and email right on the invoice. Does changing these make the change permanent for the customer going forward? Or is it just for that one invoice? And what about editing more complicated features, like if the Business name or Person name should show as the primary name for the customer?
I can provide you information about modifying customer details in QuickBooks, @squarecandy.
Currently, the only way to edit customer information is to visit the customer/client’s profile. Changing their details on the invoice page will apply to one invoice only.
Please note that updating their information under the Customer Details screen is permanent and will apply to future transactions. That means old or past events prior modifications will remain the same.

Thanks for your reply.
I did indicate already that I know how to access editing a customer via the Sales > Customers screen.
... so I guess the answer is "no, that feature does not exist" in terms of what I was actually asking about: editing a customer's data without jumping away from the new invoice screen.
Please fix this QBO. It is extremely time consuming to not be able to edit customer information while you are in their invoice and the info is right there. Why make us go out of the invoice and edit the information in a different area. I used QB for desktop for 23 years and you could do this. Please, please fix this!
Allow me to provide information about editing customer information in QuickBook Online, DCoop.
I know how beneficial is this not only for your business but for your convenience as well. I'll make sure to take note of this and submit feedback. In meantime, you'll want to save your invoice first to make sure that you'll not start all over from scratch. Then, if you'll need to edit something on your customer's information, you can go to their profile.
You'll want to get any product updates, take time to read our QuickBooks Blog. Also, you may want to record payments, we have a different processes on how you can do them. Please read this article for more information: How To Record An Invoice Payment.

I agree. Not sure why this doesn’t exist on desktop when it’s easy to do on mobile.
