going from QB for Mac 2014 on Intel Mac to new Mac with Apple Silicon chip

I was using QB for Mac 2014 Desktop on my MacBook Pro late 2011 (MBP2011) with Intel chip, running OS 10.11.6, but that motherboard crashed.

I now have a MacBook Pro 2021 (MBP2021) w/Apple Silicon chip, running OS 12.4 Monterey, that was setup using all my data from my MBP2011, including the QB2014 that was on the MBP2011.

However, when I go to launch my QB2014 on my MBP2021, an error message says that I can't use this version of QB2014 with this version of macOS (OS12.4Monterey).

At the same time, other apps that were running on my MBP2011 w/OS 10.11.6 are running just fine on my new MBP2021.

What must I do to get my QB2014 Desktop for Mac company profile data onto a QB on my new MBP2021?

Thanks!

Ted

QBD 2014 is outdated and doesn't support Monterrey. You may have 3 options:

1. Purchase a one time license for QBD 2020 for Mac

2. Purchase a one time license for QBD 2021 Pro to run on Parallels

3. Purchase the subscription license for QBD 2022 for Mac Plus.

Fyi, they have announced their plan to increase the renewal price for QBD 2022.

I'm pleased to have you here in the Community today, @Ted939. I'd be happy to share some details about your concern, along with a workaround to get through this and access your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Files on your new MacBook Pro 2021.

Please be aware that MacBook Pro 2011 and MacBook Pro 2021 are built differently and that their features are not the same. One possible reason for this error is that your MacBook Pro 2021 doesn't support QuickBooks Desktop 2014 because it's outdated. As a workaround, you can consider getting your QBDT 2014 files backup so you can still use it when you upgrade your QBDT subscription to QuickBooks Desktop 2022. To create a back up for your files, here's how:

  1. Access your company file for QBDT 2014 on your old MacBook Pro 2011.
  2. Set your Backup Preferences.
  3. Go to File and then select Back Up.

QuickBooks will then backs up your company file and when it's finished, you'll see a success message. Click OK once done.

I also recommend giving this article a visit to know more about the system requirement for QuickBooks Mac 2022: System requirements for QuickBooks Mac Plus 2022.

In addition, I've got you this handy article for further details on how you can restore your backup company file for QBDT Mac: Restore your backup company file for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

You're always welcome to post here again, @Ted939. If you need help performing specific tasks in QuickBooks, you can also get back to me anytime. I'll be more than happy to assist you once again. Take care!
