Hi Jhabas! I’m excited to see your first post here in the Community! Linking jobs to a transaction is essential for tracking the profitability of your projects. I’m here to guide you through the steps on how to do this in QuickBooks Online (QBO) so you can get this task done seamlessly.
When creating a transaction, make sure to choose the specific name of the job or project so they get linked properly. There are two ways to add new project entries. You can either do any of the following:
- Record a new entry (for example, invoice and expense) through the + New button. Just enter the job name in the Add customer dropdown.

- Add a new activity within the job/project itself in the Projects menu. Follow these steps to do so:
- Go to Projects.
- Find and pick the project you want to add a transaction to.
- From the Add to project dropdown, select the type of item you want to add.

- Enter all the necessary deails.
- Hit Save and close.
For a comprehensive guide on the task above, please see this article: Manage projects in QuickBooks Online.
