You can reprint your 1096 tax forms after going through the manual process of printing and filing the 1099 tax forms in QuickBooks Online. Let me show you how to prepare and print them.
But if the forms need to be aligned, select No, it doesn't line up and then, re-select the 1096 Form, and click Print on a 1096 Form. Learn more about printing your form with this article: Print 1096 Forms.
However, if the forms you need to reprint are older than last year, it's best to contact the IRS and obtain a copy from them. Use this link to contact your tax agency: Federal Payroll Tax Compliance.

This doesn't answer the question about prior tax years - just for the current year.

According to the IRS webpage, the form is provided for informational purposes only. The official printed version of this IRS form is scannable, but a copy, printed from this website is not. QuickBooks is unable to archive the 1096 form. Once you e-file 1099, the 1096 form will go along with the 1099s that you have submitted. To ask for a copy, you can request or ask from the IRS.

Why does QB always have to make things so difficult and not just archive the previous years? Upsetting and the problem with big companies not knowing your customers.
This is ridiculous, all documents of every kind should be archived and retrievable, especially when Quickbooks is being paid to handle all of it! Workers' Comp insurance requests copies of both the 1099s and the 1096 every year on the insurance anniversary date for their annual Workers' Comp Premium Audit so I have to make up a dummy one since Quickbooks won't archive it - Maybe I should back charge Quickbooks for the time it will take do it myself!

I`m trying to get a copy of 1096 for the same purpose - (WC annual audit) can`t find it no where.. ridiculous!!!!
Yet, you are able to archive the 1099s??? Doesn't make sense that you can archive the 1099s but not the 1096s that go with them. Sounds like a cop-out to me. Especially since I was able to recreate one myself to satisfy our worker's comp insurance audit. But I shouldn't have to do that when we are paying for premium service. Quickbooks needs to realize the needs of their customers and do what they need to do to meet those needs. After all, it is the customer that is paying for the salaries of everyone at Quickbooks!
