How can I sort a transaction report (detail, not summary) by transaction amount?

Hello JDotson,

If you're using the Transaction Detail by Account report,we can sort it by Taxable Amount. However, transactions are still grouped by account.

  1. Select Reports on the left menu and search the Transaction Detail by Account report.
  2. Click the Sort option and select Taxable Amount in the Sort by field.
  3. Click anywhere in the report to apply the changes.

If you're referring to a different report, feel free to let me know. I'll be around to further help you.

How can I sort a transaction report (detail, not summary) by transaction amount?

Changing the Sort choice from Default to Taxable Amount and then clicking in the report or on Run Report did absolutely nothing because there is no column called Taxable Amount.  So, I customized the report to include Taxable Amount as a column, but the report returns nothing in this column because it is an expense account I'm trying to sort and there is no taxable amount.  The report is still sorting by date.  Why isn't every column shown on the report listed as a potential sort criteria?

Thank you for joining the thread, @BethWorkhorse.

I'd like to help you with sorting your transaction report.

You can include the taxable amount on the Transaction Detail By Account. Just click on the small Gear Icon beside the upper right corner of your report and check the box for Taxable Amount. Then, you can sort it in ascending or descending order by taxable amount. Please refer to my sample screenshot below.

However, if you're still having issues with customizing the report, you can try using a private browser to isolate the issue. There are times wherein the stored data of your browser's cache results in unusual behavior when using QBO.

Here's how to use a private browser:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Internet Explorer: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If you're able to run a report without having issues with the sort and columns, you can go back to your regular browser and clear the cache.

For more information about customizing reports, you can check out this article: Customize Reports

You can also visit our help site for other related articles you may need in the future.

Let me know how it goes. I want to ensure you'll be able to customize your transaction report according to your preferences. I'm here if you need further help.

How can I sort a transaction report (detail, not summary) by transaction amount?

This is a complete non-sensical response to @BethWorkhorse ?, the issue is trying to sort by columns that exist on the report (in her case 'Amount')

Why are you telling her how to add by 'Taxable Amount' when she said she already did and it didn't change sorting because there is no data in that field?
