You do NOT need a journal entry in most cases — QBO has simpler tools. 

Record a Cash Expense (Best Practice)

Use this if the money came from:

  • Petty cash

  • A business cash box

  • Personal funds (and you want to reimburse yourself later or record as owner contribution) 

    You said it’s already included in invoices — so you’ve already collected the income, and don’t need to invoice separately for packaging. That’s fine. Just be sure:

    • The packaging cost is not entered as a line item in a way that makes it look like extra income

    • You’re not double-booking income and expense
