Thanks for visiting the Community today, @O1L. I've got your back, and I'll share some details about your concern so you can manage your bill payment reference number and have them in the sequence you want in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
As I check here on my end, the feature you're trying to access here in QBO is currently unavailable. There's no option to turn off the automatic populating of reference numbers when using bill payment. To get through this, you can input your reference number in your next bill payment, and then after that, your following bill payment will follow your custom reference number sequence.
Also, please be aware that this won't affect your existing bill payment transactions in your QuickBooks Online account. That said, they'll only affect your future bill payment transactions.
