I don't see an option for the 1096
Hi there, @BRRWSCadmin.
Thanks for joining this thread. My colleague has already responded to your reply to this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/employees-and-payroll/re-i-e-filed-my-1099-s-thru-....

I just printed 1099's using QB online, but I don't see any link for printing the 1096. I only have 4 1099's so dont need to efile. I read in a forum that a 1096 cannot be printed in QB online. Surely this is wrong! This is so annoying! It was an easy process in desk top. Does anyone know about this issue?
Me again. By the way, the instructions above do not apply as there is no choice for a 1096 form. There is only a choice for 1099-NEC and 1099-M.
Hello, bggo2200.
Form 1096 is a summary of information of your Form 1099 for the tax year. It is required by the IRS when filing paper copies of 1099 forms. However, if you are filing electronically, Form 1096 is not required by the IRS. QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Contractor Payments do not provide Form 1096, but they provide a way to view a summary of your e-filed 1099s from the 1099s filings tab.
It is important to note that the rules and requirements for filing 1099 forms and Form 1096 can change yearly. You should consult the IRS website or speak with a tax professional for the most up-to-date information. You can read through this article for reference about Print a 1096 form.
Additionally, for more information, please refer to the 1099 FAQs article, which covers the 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, and 1099-K forms.
I'm still open to your replies if you need further assistance on form 1096. Have a great day and take care always.
Hi Ailene, and thank you for your reply. I am well aware of the purpose of the 1096 form. I've used QB desktop for many years, and always printed and filed the 1099 & 1096 forms manually. This is the second year that one of my bookkeeping clients has used QB online, and last year I had no problems printing and filing the forms manually. I can't believe that there is no way to print the 1096 in QB online anymore! I only have 4 1099-NEC forms for this company, so are you saying that I have to efile in order to not need the 1096? I know that it is not needed for efile, but I'm not efiling. My understanding is that the 1096 MUST BE submitted with manual 1099's. Am I missing something? Thank you.
I'm here to provide insight about the payroll forms, bggo.
When you manually file your 1099, a 1096 is required, but if you submit your 1099 by electronic means, the IRS will not need a copy of the 1096.
QuickBooks Online (QBO) doesn't provide Form 1096. You'll need to go to IRS to secure a copy. However, you can view a summary of your e-filed 1099s in QBO. Here's how:
