It's great to see you actively monitoring the process, Hermusette.

The time it takes to migrate company files from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online can vary depending on the size of your data and internet connection speed.

If you are nearing the 72-hour mark and have not yet seen the completion of the export, I recommend checking the following:

  1. Review Notifications: Look for any notifications from QuickBooks that may need further action or indicate migration problems. Also, review your email, including spam or junk folders, for updates from QuickBooks about the export status.
  2. Verify Data Size and Complexity: Larger or more complex files can take longer to migrate. Ensure your data is prepared and optimized for transfer.
  3. Check Internet Connection: Ensure you have a stable and strong internet connection, as interruptions could delay the process.
  4. Update Your QuickBooks: Check if QuickBooks Desktop is up-to-date with the latest release to avoid compatibility issues. Here's how:
    • Open QuickBooks Desktop.
    • Go to the Help menu and choose Update QuickBooks Desktop.
    • Select the Update Now tab.
    • Check the boxes for the updates you want to include and click Get Updates.

If the migration still fails or takes an unusually long time, I recommend contacting QuickBooks Support for more detailed troubleshooting and assistance to identify specific issues with your migration process.

Additionally, here are some articles to help you in the future:

Thank you for the helpful reply. I did go through the list of suggestions and ended up using the web-based migration tool, which worked relatively quickly (like within an hour.) Thanks again!!

@suemusette

Open your company file in QB Desktop and hit CTRL+1 keys. How big is your Total Target?

Thanks for your reply. My Target is about 13,000, so that seems small enough!. I did go through the previous responder's suggestions. I couldn't get it to work starting within the QuickBooks program - I just saw the same spinning dots that never stopped. I ended up using the web-based migration tool - that seemed to work pretty quickly. I had seen conflicting suggestions about whether I could use the migration tool for my situation, but I tried it and it worked like a charm. Thanks again!
