How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

@XYZ8 wrote:

I am preparing to make a move from QB's so when the intrusiveness gets to a point I'll be done with em.  This includes exporting all of my registers to Excel as well as downloading all data from my bank now in .CSV format and saving that in Excel as well.  I hope this helps.

I am living and working in Sweden our non profit is (using QBP Desktop in multi currency mode).

I do dread the export and changing systems. The Swedish government made it compulsory for all accounting packages sold here to have a standard export/import format (SIE format) to enable smooth interchange between systems. Keeps the companies honest. QB, however, seem to lock us in so we cannot leave...

Remember the song lyrics...
"Welcome to the hotel California... You can check out anytime, but you can never leave...."

Hotel California - absolutely remember it - great song.  It sounds like in your instance the line my aptly apply.  Does Excel or QB have an SIE add in to support this format so that you can export current data in QB to SIE and then select SIE as the file to import in Excel?  Here in the states (whenever there used to be competition among many software companies they would provide support (some better than others depending on the software) that would support data from vendors such as dBase, Paradox, CSV, Tab Delimited and the like.  One option that I've used in the past is to actually "print to file" in .txt format then programs like Excel give you the option on import to view the data allowing you to see the layout (since it is in column form) and specify the width for each column and the option to either import or skip column(s) that are not necessary.  I have found doing this in QB there are two problems that can be problematic and for me the former.  1) Despite setting an almost infinite page width that would certainly accommodate the split accounts and the memo fields they will still sometimes be cutoff only showing partial split; memo; or any other long text.  The second problem (as I recall been some time since I attempted this) is that on reports where the split categories are listed it will just show "split” and a total amount in the print to file report; thus, no multiple lines that show the split category with the amount for each category.  Finally, the print file must be printed to Generic Text as the selection if you forget and print to file but still have your printer selected as the source it will more than likely export gibberish with all the printer codes for italic, bold, font size, etc...  A possible solution is a vendor and they might have or be able to develop support for the SIE file type you mention.  (I have no affiliation with other than being a former user) who could perform all these operations and more by interfacing with QB to allow mass changes such as import/export, categories merging data from multiple company files into a new combined company.  This is handy if someone has a file for their company and another file just setup for individual use to balance personal accounts.  For instance, small business operators who pay for business items or auto fuel personally for reimbursement later.  It allows them to combine the data from business and personal (selecting only the necessary categorized transactions (ex. reimbursable expense to more effectively get an idea of the inflows/outflows of a business in one location.  This can then be printed or exported to Excel without the need for jumping back and forth between company files with two reports to view or two exports to Excel.  And it does give you a warning up front that it will need to access your company file.  But not in the sense that you must "sign into an online account."  It just meant (to me) that in order to perform the necessary operations the program had to access the company files.  As an extra precautionary measure, I would disconnect from internet just before and during my usage of the program and it performed flawlessly.  I found no program hiccups but any errors are lack of concentration such getting up at 6am and still working at 2am the next morning semiconscious.  The program is used was at the time called Transaction Import Pro (TIP) you might inquire with them if they have or could develop import export support in your country.  This program though is designed for people who've been around computers and it is always important to have regular backups of all company files daily and before attempting any import export operations particularly the individual company files that are being combined into a new company file.  (I think it even provided the ability to append data from one Company to another but I would not recommend that option) The other thing it allowed for was the ability to bring in transaction data from other sources besides QB in batch.  It also allowed much greater power in exporting out of QB to Excel or Relational Database.  (Really does anyone have time to screw around with Intuits transaction import kit directions (not to be confused with program I'm talking about) for importing data only to find there's still much editing to be done and to discover it would have been faster to do it all by hand?  I used Transaction Import Pro a few years back and really liked it; however, after four or five years of new QB versions it became obsolete. I believe though as a former user I have a lower upgrade price to get to the newest version.   Since I only used it on an occasional basis, I currently cannot justify the expense.   Here's a link to their site for anyone who might think it's necessary.   https://www.transactionpro.com/
In Summary: To me it’s pricey but worth it for those familiar with importing and exporting and need its power on a regular basis.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

A very long and involved response which may be of use to some. And, of course, there are folks out there who could hack the QB code by various methods to gain access to the data files or even to alter QB itself. In days way gone by I've used reverse compilers and other tools to fix programs for which the source was long lost, or some other reason. But really, why? All of the issues here are simply the result of Intuit intentionally altering the QB Desktop code that so many of us purchased one time licenses to use for as long as we chose to do so. In what seems to clearly be an attempt to force us to buy additional licenses, via a subscription service, they snuck in a change that we did not and do not want. What they did is unethical and simply the tactic of an 800 pound gorilla able to bully the little guy. But, hey, they could do it and they did. Many of us will do what we can to work around the problem until we find an alternative.

Good luck to all and share whatever work arounds or solution you have found useful.

If Alt-F4 isn't working for you now, try right-clicking on the upper margin of that "You need to log in" pop-up window. The context-menu which then appears gives you an option to close the window. For me it works just the way Alt-F4 used to.

Perhaps this is what we need in the US as well...This open format was released already in 1992!!!!
It gets a little too techie for me, but might be a start for a good code geek.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

One final thought regarding “Please Login to your QB Account.”  Since the message and popup does not appear when not connected to the internet while executing a QB load (see my earlier post(s)) another solution may be to identify what’s being called up on QB load and block it at Windows Firewall.  Possibly by reviewing Windows Logging or monitoring the firewall at the time of QB load may reveal the outbound source or help to determine if its piggy backing on the QB Update Service, and the port used.  If that could be identified it may prevent the popup even if they tried to institute a timed interval check.  I will be away from forum for a while. If I have a chance I’ll check and post if I discover anything.  Anyone else who’s familiar with Windows firewall, logging, registry etc. who might discover something I’m sure many in the community would greatly appreciate it.

Not a bad idea.  Used to the government or various industry organizations would set appropriate standards that benefited consumers.  For instance, certain standardized sizes and hardware pin outs that were required and would work across devices.  That's why I stay away from anything overly proprietary such as certain phone manufactures that have a USB cable designed only for their brand.  Then the next Generation or two they'll change it up again so that if you lose or break a cord you are hard pressed to find one at the interstate gas station.  Oh no - you need to go to an authorized "respected" dealer.  Then again, I'm not the type to pitch a tent and wait days outside a store to pay 800 or a 1000 bucks so I can exclaim with glee I'm part of the "in crowd." (I'm part of the "in - outside crowd.")  Especially when the device cost to make is only a fraction of what it's sold for.  That's the problem with digital vs analog (speaking outside of computers).  Production is highly robotic and cheap to produce and after a few months deemed worth little to nothing and thrown away.  That's why classic retro stuff from cars to electronics is so valuable among those who remember when things weren't made of cheap plastic and actual human engineers hand wired and soldered much of the components.  Now days components are so small it requires bots. And forget repairing that faulty component just throw it away and swap it out. No better yet just replace the whole thing.  Unfortunately these days the bureaucrats would regulate things they shouldn't and not regulate things they should.  They'd standardize USB cables but allow the I-Toaster to require the installation of a proprietary AC outlet.  Remember they care - "wear a mask- you can get one over there for free along a crack pipe."  Question:  Is it acceptable to take off the mask while using the pipe?

It appears it is using TCP port 443. I blocked (outgoing) both Quckbooks exe files in Windows firewall.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

I have used quickbooks desktop for decades and strongly object to the multiple login requirement.  I have multiple clients using desktop because they live in remote areas of Alaska and their internet is often spotty.  Requiring them to login to intuit after logging in to their desktop is a problem for users who don't always have internet. If Intuit wants to verify a subscription it is enough for a user to login once a year to upgrade/pay for the next year. Please fix this.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

This is nonsense.

I just tried to create a new company file using QB Mac 2022 (fully, properly licensed etc), and was met with a dialogue telling me I have to log into my intuit online account before I can do this.

This is standalone desktop software. I do not need "greater control over user access"  and have (at present) zero interest in "make[ing] it easier to have all your Intuit products seamlessly connected"

I do have other Intuit online accounts (mint, turbotax etc) which I enjoy - but I'd prefer to keep my use of these and my company file entirely distinct, and I woudl like intuit to respect that.

I find it weird/sinister - and on the verge of bullying - that Intuit seems to think forcing users to log in is even OK.

If this is something some users would find useful, please make it optional - otherwise get rid of it!

@Pabz_L  You mentioned: "If you want to remove the reminder every 7days, I suggest login to your Intuit account. " - Had you read the thread thus far? If so, I think it ought o be clear that (1) We don't need or want to log in to an intuit account. (2) We do want the reminder - and the limitations - to be removed.

@Tori B it's been 2 years or so - I have submitted feedback. QuickBooks 2022 for mac just asked me to log in *before* allowing me to create a new company file. There seemed no way around this ... How are we looking on getting rid of this ridiculous element?

This does not seem to ease the restriction on creating a new company file on QB Mac 202, frustratingly - even with internet off, I seem unable to set up a new file without being directed to set up an intuit online account.

That is just outrageous! I haven't created a new company on windows in a while.  I am going to try to create one now to see if I can do it without having to login.  That's ridiculous! I'm getting REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLY tired of Intuit's intrusion.  As a tax preparer, I am supposed to make sure that data is protected.  It seems to me that Intuits demands VIOLATE that clause because I don't know what they DO with this information or how secure it really is! I trust them with NOTHING.  I refuse to use any other Intuit products.  I keep searching for an alternative that doesn't require some online storage or login but so far, little luck that isn't outrageously expensive.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

I found a actual fix for me and thought someone might benefit from it. I am not a accountant or QB user, I am a contractor looking for a fix. QB technicians have never been any help so I stopped trying 15 years ago in calling them for anything, at least the user community has helped at times.

My customer had someone successfully duplicating his business checks and cashing them. His bank, Huntington Bank, implemented a scheduled task that runs every 20 minutes to only cash checks that were in Quickbooks. The computer that runs the scheduled task would freeze up with the "log into Intuit" which was preventing QB and the bank synchronizations causing vendors to not be able to cash checks. This computer is not used by any user and in a locked room, Alt-F4 doesn't help in this situation and is laughable since this is not a fix but rather a work around (takes me back to my Novel days lol), all users access QB via a RDP connection to our terminal server, which has never had this issue.

My customer had tried TSheets for a brief time and did not like it and switched to ADP for payroll. The Windows Registry didn't clean up when TSheets was removed, and was causing issues. If you are using QB payroll services this may not work for you but worked for me.

In the registry at Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intuit\QBWebConnector\SOAPWebServices I removed all settings for TSheets, and removed any other values within Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intuit that referenced TSheets. I compared the registry from the terminal server that did not have the issue so I could safely cleanup the affected computer (export registry keys for intuit to be safe).

If you are using QB/Intuit payroll services this may not be of any help, but I would check the SOAPWebServices key in the registry if you are not using QB payroll. At least you could remove the settings for any computer that does not need the payroll services.

Hope this helps someone out there...

For other users who want to create new company files without having to log into an Intuit account, I was able to do this with an older Qb version (QB 2019 for Mac - which fortunately I still have a working copy of): created a new company file called "Blank Co" which I'll just copy now and modify each time I need to set up any new files.

Obviously this isn't a fantastic solution to the general issue - just mentioning it in case it's helpful to anyone else.

And Intuit - please take heed of your frustrated customers here and retract the tentacles of needless control !!

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

Adrian -

This work around, like so many others mentioned in this thread is all because of a change that your Developers team made about a year and a half ago when they inserted code in the desktop versions of QB that attempts to force users to log onto an Intuit account in order to proceed to use QB Desktop. This is a widely hated change. So, while you're having that chat with the Developers team tell them that they should write a patch that does only one thing, just this one and no other, it removes the hated log in to Intuit code from the Desktop versions.

Pretty simple request.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

There is no law.  I asked a intuit employee to refer me to the "law".  I had to ask twice "what law", they referred me to their page of "legal" jargon.  There is no law referenced it is just their lawyers legal jargon.  The link they gave me mentions that intuit uses this data to track you.  I told this to the intuit staff person that it states so on their website.

The person I chatted with said they could stop this message coming up by verifying my account / license.  Once my account was verified they told me I needed to reset my updates.

Which I needed to do for every QB file I have.  I do not know if this will work if you have not verified your license with intuit staff but this is the process for resetting your updates

Go to help

Click on the Update Now tab

Click on the reset Update box.

Then get updates

restart quick books

So far I have not been asked to login in but it has only been a bit over a week.  If this works I will make a clean post with the instructions.  You may have to login to the intuit account first to verify or work with one of the intuit staff as I did.

Surely, you'd like intuit would make it know that there is a fix for this annoying feature, but perhaps they cannot track up if we do?  Or are they just to big and something fell through the cracks.  I do not know.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

Longtimeusger -

Well, I guess I'm having difficulty seeing how what you describe would work, unless Intuit has removed the hated code and an update does that, but I guess we can remail hopeful. One question regarding your description has to do with "...they could stop this message cominy up by verifying my account lincense." I don't want to get picky over words, but please help me to understand.

1. How would/did they verify your account license?

2. Is it your understanding that once your account license was verified, and you had restarted updates, that the pop up question would automatically disappear? Or, did they infer that you would need to contact them again and they would somehow stop it?

If, in fact, Intuit has either removed this hated code it's reason for celebration. Even if they only provided a one time "fix" to bypass it, that too would be welcome. Since so many of us have come to distrust Intuit, and for good reason, we have turned off updates to the product to prevent any other Intuit serving little additions.

One more thing, my 2019 QB Desktop is now displaying a message that support for the product will end this May and I should update. Meaning they want me to sigh up for their subscription version, which I won't do. Hopefully, it just means tha they won't be sending out any more updates, which, excepting for the removal of this particular issue, I will welcome. I'm be more than happy to work around the problems that not updateing causes, such as the inability to print the new 1099 version.
