How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

Hi AndyTJ -

Not to dampen your comment but technically we don't own the product. What we do own is a license to use the product and within that is the implicit understanding that we own a license to use the product as it was when we first licensed it subject to the occasional fix of a bug or two that cause the product to not perform as originally intended.

That said, I have not given Intuit license or permission to change the product in a way that I consider unwanted and undesirable and in such manor that I would not have purchased the license for the product had it contained the "feature" that they changed or added. That's pretty much where we all are, I think.

And, Intuit's motive for this change, contrary to the BS they keep trying to feed us, is that they want to force us into buying into their cloud based subscription service so that they get additional revenue each and every year. Most of us object to doing so for at least these two reasons; 1.) we don't want to be paying an annual fee to use an accounting system when the basics of accounting remain the same from year to year (payroll excepted), and; 2.) most of us want to completely isolate and protect our data, and client data, under our own roof without Intuit, or anyone else, have a back door into that data.

So, there you are.

Rebuild may solve some problems but definitely not all. And the Quickbooks Desktop Hub tool is no better.

Never the less LLuck, I don't believe that Intuit stated that I would have to sign into the Intuit website every time I used their Computer based Quickbooks. I may have given it another thought if they did. Also I have purchased licenses for other products and have never had to sign onto their website before I could use their software (unless specified). The bottom line is, this has caused a lot of grief for many Quickbooks users and wasn't part of program when we all originally purchased it, and should be corrected immediately if not sooner.

I agree with you Andy. My point was not to pick nits about whether what we bought was the software or a license to use the software, it was to point out that we bought a product as it was, and with the functionality it provided, at the time of purchase, subject to the understanding that we expected to company to correct minor bugs from time to time. What we did not contemplate, or agree to, was that the company would have the right to alter the software in ways of their choosing and without our knowledge or consent. That is exactly what they have done with this particular change, and is, in part, the subject of my complaint to the Federal Trade Commission.

Note:  (Sorry there to LLuck it appears this was posted as a reply to you.  After opening company file and getting the same problem as everyone else, dealing with that and trying to get out of the office for a meeting then this site kept vapor locking on me and I had to keep refreshing my browser so it got misplaced.  That said - I think you make very good points).

To "It is not the impression you want to leave" Seriously! Yet it is the impression you do leave!  And to “We only want to benefit you.....”  Really? – I think you want us to benefit you.  Hey as absurd as the world is today next you'll request that a camera be installed at the office or home in order to do a facial scan and an audio device with voice print recognition to absolutely verify its actually the administrator.   I'm technically inclined working with computers since DOS days and a Quickbooks user for many years but I don't necessarily need your product as I'm sure is the case for many other users.  And I've heard now for years cheesy slogans like "cloud" computing or be safe and store your data in the "cloud" oh how enchanting that mysterious cloud must be.  I think I’ll hook three computers together in the office and pull data onto my workstation from the server so that I too can have a cloud).  With today's security breaches and with possible quantum computing in the future (which supposedly can crack even today's most sophisticated encryption keys - I'll continue to store my data locally and unplug the CAT 5 cord and Intuit from my life if this continues.  And now there's this big push vendors to remove desktop versions of their programs and go strictly "cloud" based.  Computers once were a tool of productivity but that ended in the early 90's with everything wired together so that computers got choked up with security and regular virus updates (what's interesting is that "regular" "maintenance" updates seem to be necessary in other areas of life today).  I will say one thing positive though - any hacker that might try navigating through this site might just give up because of how slow and bloated it is.

I think what Kat is seeking is the same thing that we in the world have been requesting for months, now years. STOP MAKING OUR DESKTOP APPLICATION TO LOG INTO YOUR SERVERS, EVER EVER EVER  EEEEVVVVEEEEERRRR!!!!!!!.

We want no connection to your cloud to be required in order to run our standalone application.

I'm happy to provide my FTC complaint numbers to anyone who wants that information. Just send me a PM. I will also include my email address for direct contact outside of the Intuit world where we know Big Brother is watching.

I encourage one and all to also file complaints with the FTC, and then add on your federal and state representatives as the issues raised land well in the middle of platform v. user privacy issues that the feds at least are becoming increasingly interested.

Meanwhile Intuit will simply continue to do whatever they wish with your data.

Thanks for the info/report number.  I have been a QBPA for more than 30 years now and I have stopped using direct for any payrolls this month and may move all my payroll clients to other providers by year end.  I may also not renew my PA membership as this issue may be a breaking point for me.

I have a Hartford Insurance data breach policy and I am thinking of contacting them to see if this Intuit privacy issue/problem "may" break the rules under my policy...I will have to stop using QB is Hartford determines I am no longer in compliance with my insurance policy.

Excellent point and one that I hadn't thought of. I manage several small real estate portfolios that are organized as LLC's, S-Corps, or LP's and have a fiduciary duty in that capacity. But these are all very long running and among friends so the sharp edges have never been an issue. That would not be the case for anyone using QB in a professional capacity providing accounting and tax services. I would be very interested in hearing what your insurance carrier has to say.

I once used QB for payroll but gave that up long ago and have used ADP with great success. They now even administer the 401k program for my employees. Highly recommended.

Is yours based on an existing program? We have decided on ERPNext as it is open source, took a little trial and error to get it installed on a linux server (use Ubuntu 18 not 20 and then use the easy install script for ERPNext). Target is to move to it for 1 Jan 2022, so we will finish out 2021 on QB then never buy an intuit product again.

I hear you. I am looking for other options besides Quickbooks too. This and all the adds that pop up. I have had it.

I gave in, Intuit has convinced me to move to the cloud.

So we signed up with Xero.com over a week ago and converted our company over. We still support over a dozen companies that use QuickBooks - all of them irritated with Intuit in general (why won't they fix problems that have been around for years instead of doing crap like this) and this may be the straw - it was for us. Xero converted our company data and we've been invoicing and paying bills and reconciling our bank and not missing QuickBooks at all.

So they were right, we did need an online account, just not with Intuit.

QB censored your post "for your protection" which is also why they want you to log into their server in order to use your QB desktop product.

Oh, and maybe to provide you with a better expereience.

LOL! ROF!

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

I was upset at first about the forced login keeping out of my company file.  Then I realized it's pretty much standard practice for large companies to do this stuff.  It's called trolling and they enjoy seeing the strife and bickering that result.  Customer satisfaction and "profits" are secondary.  Companies like Intuit just need to keep shuffling numbers around to keep "Wall Street" happy.  I'll be looking for alternatives but don't hold out hope that the next move won't turn out the same.

LLuck

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

That's an interesting take on Intuit's motivation. Could be that there's some element of that, but I think you can rest assured that Intuit's sole motivation is profit. Their only concern for customer satisfaction is based on profit. The get no points from Wall Street for just shuffling except to the extent that it produces profit. And, the profit motive here is pretty transparent. If you have a copy of QB Desktop 2019 and it works for you there is no more profit available to Intuit. That's why they want you to give up the desktop stand alone and sign up for a cloud based subscription service where your data is on their servers and you are forced to pay an annual subscription fee to continue accessing it.

If you look into it you will find that Intuit has other products aimed at enterprise needs like MRI that they are also pushing into their could platform.

Wow, these people really are getting worked up about one simple box that you can just close out of.  Your not forced to sign in, so if you don't want to, just don't.  You talk about how it is wasting your time, but you seem to have plenty of time to come on here an write super long paragraphs about this box that you could simply close.  Also, being rude, which most of these complaints seem to be, will get you no where really fast.  Good luck all.
