I'm here to help you align your 1099 NEC, chrisk3.

To start, let's check the PDF settings and make sure that general alignment settings apply the following changes:

  • Page Scaling: Set to None.
  • Make sure that Auto-Rotate and Center is not checked.
  • Make sure that Choose Paper Source by PDF page size is checked.

Once done, let's go back to the Prepare 1099 page and click on the "No, it doesn't line up" button.

Here's how:

  1. On the Prepare 1099 page, click Finish preparing 1099s.
  2. Select No, I'll print and mail.
  3. Select 1099 and print a sample page, then select No, it doesn't line up.
  4. If the form already aligns properly, select Yes, looks good!.
  5. Choose Next
  6. Click Done to complete printing 1099.

However, if the same thing happens, let's proceed with updating your Adobe Reader.

Additionally, I'm adding our QuickBooks Year-end guide for reference. This article contains information that'll help you complete year-end tasks and end the year smoothly.

Stray in touch with us if you need further assistance in printing your 1099. We're always here to help.

I am printing our 1099 NEC the first recipient lines up but the 2nd recipient, bottom of the page is not aligned. Changing alignment makes the first not aligned. Help

Hello,

I have checked and I have the most recent version of Adobe installed. I do not see an option for auto-rotate and center on my print screen. I have tried all the other fixes. When I print the 1099-NEC form, the contractor at the top of the form lines up perfect but the 2nd contractor at the bottom of the form does not line up. If I change the alignment to fix the bottom contractor, the top form will not line up. I still need help.

Hey there, chrisk3.

Thanks for dropping by the Community this afternoon. If you followed the steps provided by my colleague above and still can't get your 1099s to print quite right, I would recommend reaching out to our support team for further guidance. They can get into a screen share with you and help you set up the print page so it comes out exactly how you want it too. To reach them, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help (?) at the top right.
  3. Enter your concern, then select Let's talk.
  4. Select Contact Us to connect with a live support agent.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from the next available expert.

While you're waiting to hear back from our agent, I'm including a helpful article for you to check out that goes over several common troubleshooting issues with 1099's in QuickBooks. If you have any other questions, feel free to post here anytime. Thanks and I hope you have a lovely Monday.

I am having the same problem with printing the 1099 NEC. The top portion is aligned properly but the bottom portion is way off. My adobe is updated so please don't give me that answer. I would think that QBO would have this worked out already since the forms must be completed by January 31st. I need a fix today, not tomorrow or two weeks from now.

This is not the kind of experience we want you to have, freedom3507.

You can follow the contact us steps from my colleague Nick_M. This will send a report to our product engineers. They will be the ones to check the error you're getting when printing 1099.

Alternatively, you might want to consider the following before printing your 1099 form:

  • According to the QBO System Requirements, you are required to use Adobe Reader 11.0 or higher for printing
  • For printing forms, a laser or inkjet printer is recommended.

You can also try printing the form on a different browser, or open a compatible Adobe Reader and print them from there. This step worked for other users, let me know if it helps.

Stay in touch if you have any other questions about printing the 1099 form.

I am also having the same issue.  I had this problem last year and I remember spending hours trying to figure it out.  I can't remember what the fix was.  Before last year i never had these problems.

I am printing our 1099 NEC the first recipient lines up but the 2nd recipient, bottom of the page is not aligned. Changing alignment makes the first not aligned. Help

Hi, Chris. Hopefully this will help.

I was struggling with alignment issues for 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC in QuickBooks Online (could get the top section looking fine but not the bottom section). I found a solution that worked for me. It doesn't make sense to me why it worked, but it did work.

I use non-QuickBooks forms from a large office supply retailer. (Probably what most everyone here is using.) Formerly, when I tried printing a form, I would do it directly from the PDF-viewer box (if that's the right term) in QuickBooks. After a lot of experimenting, I ended up downloading the doc to my computer (by using, of course, the downward arrow in the upper right corner of the PDF-viewer). Once I had it saved to my hard drive, I then opened that file up like any PDF file (with Adobe Acrobat) and printed it. For some reason, the top and bottom sections were now proportional to each other. The alignment was still not yet perfect, but, to fix that, all I had to do was go back into QB and fiddle with the alignment a few times, each time saving the new PDF to my computer and then printing it from Acrobat (not the QB program). (I just adjusted this blindly. For example, if the printing was too low on the page, I simply would then tap the plus sign in the vertical alignment section once or twice, then save, then open, and then print again. Trial and error.) For print settings in Acrobat, the only thing I did was make sure to click "Actual Size" rather than "Fit," etc. under "Page Sizing & Handling." Eventually, I got everything to print perfectly.

Again, no idea why printing from a saved file versus printing directly from the website should suddenly cause the formatting to be correct. I mean, it's the same exact document. But, it worked.

I hope I explained this clearly enough and that it helps someone. I'm not particularly computer savvy; I just have a basic laptop running Windows 10. The truth is, while struggling, I kept praying for an answer (literally). I'm a Christian, and I believe God answered my prayer. (He is so good!)

All the best to you!

thank you for this tip, this ended up being what I had to do after hours of trying to get things to line up.  no idea why it worked either but it was maddening.

I don't have a download arrow for my 1099s. I can view it but can only print directly from QB. This keeps doing it to me every year and it's frustrating. The top lines up fine but the City, State and Zip don't so they don't even show in the window of the envelope to mail. This is very frustrating and QB should have a fix for this.

None of QB "fixes" work. Why do we have to go through this every year?!
