I am unable to access my company file in QBMigContentZip in the new computer. The folder is password protected and am unable to unzip it to use the Password Reset tool.

I have quickbooks desktop 2019 pro. I changed computer and used the migrator to transfer the files to the new computer. I do not remember setting a password during the migration, but now I have a zip folder that cointains all my files that is password protected and I cannot unzip it without password. I tried using the Password Reset tool as suggested by Intuit, but it's not working. I think it's because the company file is inside the zip folder.

Unfortunately I don't have the old computer any longer.

When migrating your file to another computer, the system typically requires an authentication password for security purposes, Gabriella.

If you didn't set up the password, you can reach out to the person who created it for assistance.

As for resetting your password, ensure that you enter details that exactly match the credentials you used to register with CAMPS. Please note that even a single typo or missing letter will prevent you from successfully changing your password. Visit the Camps (Customer Account Management Portal) to verify your license and account credentials.

Once done, I'll provide this page for additional guidance on how to reset your password: Reset your password for QuickBooks Desktop.

I cannot follow the steps you indicated because the program is not opening to the log in page, but to the Open company page. Right now my company file ends in qbw.zip and I am unable to unzip it without that new password which I don't remember setting.

I can see the challenges that come with password recovery to access your company successfully, Gabriella.

When moving your data to a different computer using the Migrator Tool, QuickBooks requires you to set up a complex password. You'll need to take note of and utilize them only for the Migrator Tool.

Since you're unable to remember it, you need to log in to CAMPs outside QuickBooks to help you verify your details and use them to reset your password.

Here's how:

  1. Copy and paste this link: https://camps.intuit.com/ into your browser.
  2. Enter your Email or User ID and password in the You need an Intuit account to sign in section and click on Continue.
  3. Please follow the instructions on the screen and write down your credentials.

After verifying your details, download the Automated password tool for QuickBooks Desktop to reset your QuickBooks Admin password.

To proceed, follow the steps below:

  1. Once you're on the page, click on the Get Started button.
  2. Enter your License Number, Complete Name, Email, Business Phone Number, and Zip Code in the Automated Password Reset Tool.
  3. Click on the Next button and follow the steps provided on the screen.

If you're unable to reset them, I suggest utilizing a third-party application that provides services to unzip and reset the company file password. Visit this page: QuickBooks Desktop App Market.
