It depends on how much budget you have. There are some options in the market for non-cloud system.

I have 9 businesses currently using quickbooks so the amounts I spend are substantial enough. I need a serious product not this flimsy and buggy quickbooks.

I have 9 businesses on quickbooks so my budget is enough to use a serious accounting package as opposed to this flimsy and buggy quickbooks software.

You may have multi company files with a single one time license of QB Desktop.
