Any suggestions on an alternate product to QB?
I just can't deal with being robbed like this.
Last year I was forced to forgo my QB software that I purchased outright just a few years prior, and shell out $389 for the annual subscription. I was livid but had no choice, refuse to go to online version.
I have a small contractor business with 1 user and very basic functions like invoicing and proposals.
A year later they hit me with a renewal of $604!?! WTF Intuit?
Yea, it seems they're trying to make Desktop as expensive as QB Online. Of course, Desktop is still better than QB Online, and if you have more than one company file, it's still way, way cheaper.
If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your book and only need basic features, you should explore a free program. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). This program is quite popular in Asia and Europe.
Which free program are you referring to? I would like to check it out too. the rate increases at QB are insane! But I figured out they can afford to lose 4 our of 5 customers and still have the same revenue, and I don't think they are going to lose 80% of their customers, unless a competitor enters with an equal or better product at amore reasonable price.... considering how much the existing user base has invested in the QB platform, this price increase is tantamount to customer extortion! As soon as there is a better option, I'm out of here.
Does any one have any free program suggestions or a one time payment for a basic application for a new small crafter business? I can't afford to pay these new prices.
Let me provide you with some information about what program you can use for your business so you'll be guided on what to choose, SmallMom.

I just received an email from them that they will be taking $1400.00 out of my account for the new year subscription. They are nothing but a bunch of crooks. Wish I could find something different.
Intuit is such a slimy and greedy company. Less than 10 years ago, you used to be able to buy QuickBooks Desktop for ~$300 and use it for 3 years. Now it's basically a subscription costing $600+ per year. The last 3 or 4 years it's gone up almost $200 per year. This is to motivate you to move to QuickBooks online-- which costs $600-$1200 per year per company. With QuickBooks Desktop you could track multiple companies with a single purchase-- useful if you had an LLC for holding property and another for running the business.
They also lobby the government to keep tax laws complicated so people can't file their taxes themselves and need software to do it for them. Just really sick and greedy stuff.
Our pricing went from $299.95 to $1000.00 without any warning. WTF.
Did you pay $299 last year to renew your QB Desktop Pro Plus for a single user license?
Yes we only paid $299.95
Yes I paid $299.95 last renewal and with NO notification at all I got a billing today for $999.00
I'm not sure you're just lucky or what. You should have paid $649 + tax last year to renew your license. Unless you bought a new license from someone else. Do you need to run any add-ons? e.g QB Payroll
