Invoicing - Help me re-order rows in invoices + not accidentally exit the invoices.

I'm struggling with the updated version of QB Online that seems to have been pushed to us in the last month.

There's two things in particular that are slowing down invoicing and wondering if anyone has any idea what I'm doing wrong:

1.  Sometimes I need to rearrange the rows in the invoice - including multiple rows at a time.  I used to do this by using the Command button (on a Mac/Control on a PC), selecting multiple rows, and then drag/drop that selected group of multiple rows to a new section of the invoice.  Now when I use the Command button, though it will select multiple cells in the invoice, but when I big to drag the rows, everything is deselected and I can only move one row at a time (which is a lot when dealing with invoices with 100 rows to start!)

2.  There seems to be a new keystroke shortcut that exits invoices.  I keep accidentally hitting this keystroke shortcut and exiting invoices which I am working on without saving them.  Any way to disable this?

Invoicing - Help me re-order rows in invoices + not accidentally exit the invoices.

Hi there, bdr.

No worries, I'm here to help clarify how to reorder line items on an invoice and address any further concerns.

I've tested reordering line items on my own invoice and noticed that a no entry sign appears if you try to drag a line item back to its original spot. To reorder the line items successfully, make sure you're moving each item to a new row instead of its previous location. If the items are part of a bundle, you won't be able to drag each one individually. The ability to re-arrange lines in bulk on your invoices is currently not available in QBO.

If you're encountering a different issue or error, please feel free to provide more details or even screenshots. This will allow me to understand the problem better and assist you more effectively.

If you would prefer to have the ability to do this directly from the invoice screen, I recommend sharing your feedback with our development team so they can consider incorporating this feature in future updates. You can do this by:

  1. Clicking on the Gear icon at the top, then selecting Feedback.
  2. Entering your comments or suggestions, and then click Next to send your feedback.

Our development team carefully reviews user feedback, and your input could help enhance QuickBooks Online's functionality. Once you have submitted your feedback, our designated team will review it. You can track any future requests on the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

Additionally, you can personalize your invoices by changing elements such as your logo and default message in QBO. To learn more, read the article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance with your invoices, please feel free to reach out. We are here to provide all the support you require.

Invoicing - Help me re-order rows in invoices + not accidentally exit the invoices.

I think maybe you misunderstood the two questions.

FIRST QUESTION

For the first question I am trying to bulk re-arrange lines in my invoice.  I have made an example here:

For example - moving "Example Line 1" to the 3rd line of the invoice is easy, I just drag and drop.

However - If I wanted to move "Example Line 1" AND "Example Line 2" to the bottom of the invoice, I can only seem to do it individually one at a time.  In the previous version of QBO, I was able to use the "Command" button to select multiple rows and then drag and drop the whole group of rows at the same time.  Now when I hit the Command button, i can select individual cells (as pictured with blue squares) the but am unable to drag and drop sets of rows.  It may not seem like a big deal with a 5 line invoice, but some of my invoices are dozens of lines and moving rows individually is very burdensome.

SECOND QUESTION

How do I turn off the feature where dragging two fingers across the mouse to the left functions lights up a left error and functions as a "back" function to the previous screen?  I keep accidentally doing this while working on an invoice and losing unsaved work  (sorry a screen capture of this fast motion appears to be impossible)

Invoicing - Help me re-order rows in invoices + not accidentally exit the invoices.

We appreciate you returning and providing in-depth details of your concern, bdr737.

Re-arranging lines in an invoice in bulk within QuickBooks Online (QBO) can be a bit tricky as the program doesn't provide a direct drag-and-drop feature for line items in bulk. However, you can achieve this by following these steps:

  • To move a line item, you may need to manually change its content (this involves cutting and pasting details from one line to another).
  • You can use the arrow keys or manually copy-paste the details from one line to the other in the order you desire.

For now, the option to bulk re-arrange lines in your invoices is unavailable in QBO. We recommend sending feedback to our product developers to let them know about your request to have this feature. This way, our Product Engineers can consider adding this in future updates. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Click the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Press Next.

Once done, our designated team will review it. You can track your future requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

On the other hand, we'll need to adjust some settings related to touchpad gestures. This help us turn off the feature where dragging two fingers across the mouse to the left functions as a "back" gesture specifically for your browser. Here's how you can do it depending on the browser and operating system you're using:

For Google Chrome (on Windows and Mac):

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. In the address bar, type chrome://flags, and press Enter.
  3. Search for Overscroll history navigation.
  4. Change the setting from Default to Disabled.
  5. Click on Relaunch to restart Chrome with the new settings.

For Firefox (on Windows and Mac)

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Type about:config in the address bar and press Enter.
  3. Accept the warning if prompted.
  4. In the search field, type browser.gesture.swipe.left.
  5. Double-click on the entry to modify it and set it to an empty string.
  6. Repeat the same steps for browser.gesture.swipe.right.

For Microsoft Edge (on Windows):

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. In the address bar, type edge://flags, and press Enter.
  3. Search for Overscroll history navigation.
  4. Set it to Disabled.
  5. Click on Restart to relaunch Edge and apply the changes.

Disable Back/Forward Gesture in Safari:

  1. Open Safari.
  2. In the Safari menu, go to Preferences.
  3. Navigate to the Advanced tab.
  4. Check the box for the Show Develop menu in the menu bar.
  5. From the menu bar, click Develop.
  6. Choose Disable Touch Events.

Adjusting these settings should help prevent the two-finger swipe gesture from navigating back to the previous page while using QBO in your browser. This allows you to work without interruption from unintended navigation actions.
