An internet connection is a must to run QB Online. You can prepare your data in XLS and utilize an importer tool whenever the internet connection is available.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, @klkkbk-me-com.
Being able to work both offline and online implies that you can collaborate on your documents from everywhere, at any time. I'm here to explain this further.
QuickBooks Online is a web-based accounting system for small businesses. As long as you have an internet connection, you can access it through your browser, desktop app, or mobile app. This means you won't be able to work on your books if you don't have an internet connection.
Moreover, QuickBooks Desktop is the best option if you need to use QuickBooks without an internet connection. It can be installed and downloaded on your computer. See this link below for your reference:

CJR, thank you for your reply.
Would you please let us know if QB Desktop can be used without an internet connection once it is installed.
I have used QB Desktop away from my office an have had it cease working if I did not allow it to connect to the internet. I have heard others in very remote locations say the same thing. And I had a client in the Middle East that kept their accounting software on a separate network entirely off the internet for security reason.
How do we turn off the requirement for QB Desktop to periodically go on to the internet to do whatever it is doing so that the software remains functional?
Many thanks for your assistance.
With kind regards,
Mark
When they introduced (i.e. forced) us to integrate Intuit ID and some recent versions of QB Desktop, users had to be connected to the internet from time to time. I believe their main reason is to eradicate all crack licenses.
Hi there, @coveryourassets.
Yes, we can use QuickBooks Desktop with or without the internet. If any other tasks require internet access, like QuickBooks updates and third-party app integration, the software will direct you to connect to a secure internet connection.
Furthermore, I'm adding this article on how to manage your customer, vendors, and inventory items lists. This will also help you transfer your data from excel to your company: Add and edit multiple customers, vendors, and items.
Please let me know if you have other concerns with your QuickBooks Desktop account. I'll be here to share more information.
Well, what if you need to send payroll but because of a disaster, you can't access the internet and don't like the online version because it isn't user friendly? We just had a hurricane and no way to send any payrolls for Desktop and some people probably can't use the online version since no power.
I hope you're safe during the hurricane, @vkeith. Let me share some information about the alternatives of sending payroll to your employees without using the internet in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
You can process a manual paycheck without an internet connection due to a calamity. However, you must double-check the taxes since you cannot update the tax table without an internet.
To create paychecks, here's how:
You can then print the paycheck to give it to your employees or send it outside QuickBooks. Keep in mind that if you pay outside QuickBooks, you can record that in QuickBooks once there is already an internet.
For more information, you can visit this article: Create and run your payroll.
Also, I'm adding this article for future help in managing your employees and payroll account with QBDT Payroll: QuickBooks Help Articles. It includes topics about editing payroll, benefits, and liabilities, to name a few.
Please know you're always welcome here in the Community if you have other payroll concerns in QBDT. Don't hesitate to reach out, and I'll gladly help.
I already know how to do all that. Our issue is the actual direct deposits can't be done without internet access. With as many small business that use Quickbooks, you would think there would be a way during disasters to help clients with payroll issues like sending direct deposits.
We do also have up to date tables.
