Issues with getting a custom field in Item master to appear on custom transaction reports

Hello, I have created a custom field for my items call Commodity Code, and populated same.  Unfortunately, when I run Custom/Transaction Reports/ and add in the column "Commodity Code", none appear except those associated with credit memos?  Can anyone help me out here?  Much appreciated.

Issues with getting a custom field in Item master to appear on custom transaction reports

Thank you for posting here in the Community, @TDSDen.

Let me share some insights on how the custom field works on your report.

Your custom field's associated items or transactions will not appear to be working as designed.

If it's the column header that is not showing in your report, it may be caused by a corrupted file. Let's run the Verify Rebuild Utility Tool in QuickBooks Desktop to detect the damaged data. Here's how:

  1. Choose File then Utilities.
  2. Select Verify Data. If the tool finds no error, then everything is fine with the company file, if you see "Your data has lost integrity" error message on your screen, then you'll have to Rebuild Data to fix the identified error.
  3. Choose Files and select Utilities.
  4. Select Rebuild Data and click OK.
  5. Follow on-screen prompts carefully and make the appropriate selections.
  6. Once you see Rebuild has completed message, click OK.

Once done, pull up the report again to check the figures on the custom fields you've created.

Issues with getting a custom field in Item master to appear on custom transaction reports

Transaction-based reports will include the custom field values only when the values have been added to transactions. They won't include the values on the item records.

Could this be what you're seeing? Have you added the values to your transactions?

How can the values on the item records be automatically added during invoicing or order entry so those values appear on a transaction report? I have many products with differing cable lengths and want to ultimately calculate how much cable was used periodically.
