LInking a sales order to an invoice

I always create my invoices from my sales order to make sure they are linked.  I just found one that for some reason is not linked to the invoice.  How can I link them so I don't have to back track and completely redo all my payments and invoice?

LInking a sales order to an invoice

Linking sales orders to invoices is crucial for any business. It helps you stay on top of your game and streamlines the entire process, Morgan.

For now, the ability to link both transactions is unavailable. As a workaround, you'll have to redo them starting by deleting the invoice and creating a sales order and an invoice. To delete an invoice, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the existing invoice.
  2. Select the Delete drop-down box beside the Save button
  3. Click Delete, then click OK.

To create a sales order:

  1. Go to the Customer tab, then select Create Sales Orders.
  2. Enter all the necessary information on your sales order form.
  3. Click Save & Close.

However, I still suggest reaching out to an accounting professional if they have other ways how to deal with this and check what are accounts affected once you delete transactions. At the same time guide you through the process.

To know more details on how you can create an invoice for a Sales Order, I've added this article for reference: Create An Invoice In QuickBooks Desktop.

Furthermore, QuickBooks allows you to customize reports that you want to generate. You'll only have to make sure to customize them to ensure you'll get the right data you need for your company. Check out this article for additional information: Customize Reports In QuickBooks Desktop.
